Frances Mary Hodgkins (New Zealand/British, 1869-1947) Still life with a vase of flowers and eggs signed 'Frances Hodgkins' (lower right) watercolour 49.50 x 39.50cm (19 x 15in) Other Notes: It has been suggested that this work dates to 1931 when Hodgkins was in St Tropez and painted a large number of very similar still lifes and landscapes. The inclusion of eggs and a cork tree in the background were much favoured motifs by Hodgkins during this period. The present painting will be included in Mary Kisler's forthcoming online catalogue raisonné. We are grateful to Mary Kisler for her kind assistance with this catalogue entry. Discolouration and browning around the edge possibly due to previous framing. Slight discolouration around the left of the material drape. It has been painted on a buff card which may give the impression of yellowing - it possibly has lost some if its colour. There is a faint 3 inch surface crease to the upper part of the picture. Little roughing to the edge towards the top of the picture due to it being taken out the frame at some stage. Some faint scratching to the board, some scoring to the reverse.
