A Chinese Southern Song period small celadon glaze bottle vase; the lip above a slightly tapering body and circular foot (12.5cm) The Auctioneer reports that it seems to be in good honest original condition, minor glaze crazing, small pinhead size chip of paste away at the foot rim (see close-up image) otherwise generally good with no chips, cracks or restoration noted
A Faienceries du Longwy 'Nautile' spherical pottery vase designed by Nicolas de Waël; decorated with various tropical fish and gilding, the base marked 'N de Wael' and numbered R.169018 (approx. 19cm high)There is some glaze crazing to the main body of the vase and also to the copper-coloured foot room and darkening underneath where the foot would meet the table as expected (please see image). The neck appears to be in good condition although there is some slight gilt rubbing. It is rather dusty and dirty inside but no major chips, cracks or restoration noted.
An interesting collection of miniature Studio Pottery to include vases, bowls and other similar associated items (9) The small green baluster shaped vase has chips around the top of the lip otherwise appears OK. Upon inspection all of the other pieces look to be in reasonable condition with no major problems or restoration noted.
A late 19th/early 20th century blue-glazed two-handled urn on conforming pedestal; the urn with two Bacchus-style masks, impressed and printed marks of Villeroy & Boch to one side of urn (breakages and restorations) (approx. 168cm) The urn, itself which is separate from the stern, has been sprayed a slightly different colour to the spreading circular foot at the bottom leading the Auctioneer to believe that restoration has taken place there even though upon first glance it is very good. Sadly the pedestal has sustained damage and restoration, the circular support at the top has come away from the main fluted column in the middle of the waisted part of the fluting and is prevalent and there are other minor chips and pieces of glaze away from it. It must also be noted that the top of the pedestal upon which the vase sits has been sprayed and leads the Auctioneer to believe that once again it has been restored.
A pair of late 19th century pottery vases hand-gilded and decorated in the Imari palette; each with two gilded elephant mask handles above square bases with four shaped feet, transfer marks to underside of bases 'Geo. Hall' (9.5cm high) The vases are 29.5 cm high. Condition wise there is glaze crazing to the surface as to be expected. Some the extremities decorated with gilt are rubbed including the ends of the elephant's trunks around the top of the vase and to the pierced "supports" that are affixed to the square base. There is a small chip to the feet of one of the vases (please see close-up image). There are minor scratches to the decoration although nothing major is reported. One of the vases has further rubbing to the elephants' heads to the gilding but overall appear to be in reasonable, overall original condition commensurate with age. It is noted that the Vendor reported that they were a wedding present to her and her husband from friends and they purchased them from Asprey's in London.
A Wanli period Chinese porcelain jar; the flower-head-shaped neck decorated with key fret above a stiff plantain border and underglaze blue decoration depicting the three friends of Winter (firing cracks) (14.5cm high x 15cm diameter) The vase appears structurally sound with no chips, later caused cracks or restoration noted but as per the description there are prevalent firing cracks along the outside of the body . The firing cracks appear to be prevalent in more or less all outside areas of the body to a greater or lesser extent.
A 19th century Chinese porcelain Canton vase typically hand-decorated with figures in the famille rose palette, two Karashishi 'handles' and each side decorated in high relief with gilded Chilong dragons; together with one other slightly smaller similarly decorated baluster-shaped example minus cover (the larger vase 31cm high) (2)
A late 19th century Chinese porcelain vase; flaring lip above a cylindrical neck and a baluster-shaped body with two reserves painted with flowers, the green ground decorated with five clawed dragons flying through the sky contesting the sacred pearl of wisdom, six-character Chenghua mark painted in red to the underside (pieces away from the lip and re-glued) (46cm high)
A pair of early 20th century Crown Devon Fielding's two-handled, baluster-shaped vases and covers; each hand-decorated with still-life of peaches and grapes, printed and impressed marks to their undersidesThere is some gilding away from the top of the finials, there is some glaze crazing commensurate with age over the lids and bodies and feet etc. Sadly it appears that both the finials on the covers have been broken off and re-affixed at some stage. There is some gilt rubbing to the handles and one the handles of the vases upon close inspection is found to be fractured and re-glued and there is a matchhead-size piece of gilding away which shows the clean white paste underneath. The other vase appears to be in general, reasonable order with no cracks, chips of restoration noted. The condition is generally commensurate with age.
