A Chinese Lang Yao glaze vase, 18th/19th century of squat pear shape form with a wide neck and a short spreading foot pierced to each side, covered in a faintly variegated deep red Lang Yao glaze with minute glaze bubbles which rises to the top of the piece and pools slightly at the base, the foot with an elaborate poem in gilt calligraphy composed by the Emperor Qianlong. The poem on the base of this vase reads "The red glaze on the vase is varied-the light red looks like red glow after rain, and dark red seems like a fire in roast. This colour is unmatchable. It is impossible to compare the colour with vermilion the most beautiful colour in red or the gem in West. If you put a flower in the vase, even the flower will feel shameful about her plain colour; if you want to make a painting of the vase it will be just a vain try. Many people think the origin of the red glaze ware was from Xuande reign" [Ming Dynasty] " but actually in Song Ren-zong reign" [Northern Song Dynasty] " the red porcelain was already being produced in Ding ware. Composed by Qianlong in the cyclical year Yimo" [AD 1775] " and inscribed by imperial order" The first seal reads Yu (by imperial order) and the second Qian - long A similar piece to this vase can be seen in the Beijing Palace Museum " Ht 22cm Excellent condition with no restoration View on auctionatrium.com

An impressive Chinese Blue and White Bottle Vase, tian qiu ping, mid 19th century with a wood stand the body of broad globular form rising to a broad cylindrical neck, finely decorated in underglaze blue with stylised scrolling lotus with the eight Buddhistic symbols above, the base with a band of repeating stylised lotus leaves, the shoulder with a band of crashing waves and the neck also decorated with stylised lotus between two bands of repeating key pattern, the glaze stopping neatly at the foot, the base glazed to the interior with the foot unglazed and clearly showing the hard stony paste which, along with the style and quality of the decoration, indicates a circa date firmly in the middle of the 19th century; the wood stand also 19th century but probably later. The tian qiu ping form, which derives from the resemblance of the piece to a planet, is first found in early fifteenth century porcelains. The National Palace Museum, Taipei, has a fine example decorated with dragons from the Yongle period (1403-1424). " Ht 74.8cm (overall), 55cm (vase) Excellent condition with no restoration. One small brown spot on the body (dirt from the kiln fired in). The top interior rim with very slight splitting to the glaze. The piece can have a slight lean when viewed from certain angles. A Chinese flambe glaze vase, circa 1800, with wood stand the body of slender slightly ovoid form with a ridged base and a raised circular band at the shoulder, the slightly convex cylindrical neck flaring out to the rim, the whole covered in a rich flambe glaze with many different colour effects including various shades of purple and copper red, thinning at the top to a lightish grey/blue with craquelure effects, the top interior with alternating segments of both these glazes trickling down to the base of the neck interior, the base unglazed with a stoney paste foot which shows traces of being chiselled away when the piece was removed from the kiln after firing and the interior with clear traces of potting rings, the wood stand possibly contemporary but certainly 19th century. The paste and finish of the foot, certain features of the form and the skill and quality of the glaze effects all indicate a circa date at the beginning of the 19th century. Purchased by the vendor in Singapore in the mid 1960s." Ht 58cm (Vase), 65.5cm (with stand) Excellent condition with no restoration. View on auctionatrium.com
