Bella, Stefano della -- Vase mit Totenköpfen. Entwurf zur Raccolta di vasi diversi. Feder in Braun auf Bütten. 23 x 16,5 cm. Bezeichnet in brauner Feder "Stefano della bella". Um 1646. Wz. Siebenzackige Schellenkappe. Stefano della Bella ließ sich in seiner Heimatstadt Florenz in der Goldschmiedekunst und Malerei ausbilden, bevor er unter dem Einfluss der druckgraphischen Arbeiten Remigio Cantagallinas und Jacques Callots seine eigene Stilsprache entwickelte und ein äußerst vielseitiges, über tausend Blatt umfassendes radiertes Å’uvre schuf. Neben ornamentalen Folgen, Genredarstellungen und vielfigurigen Veduten machte er sich mit bildlichen Dokumentationen höfischer Feste sowie zeitgeschichtlicher Ereignisse einen Namen. Gefördert von Don Lorenzo de' Medici, dem Onkel Großherzog Ferdinands II., hielt er sich ab 1633 in Rom auf und arbeitete von 1639-50 in Paris mit den Verlegern Israel Henriet, Langlois (Ciartres) und Pierre Mariette I zusammen, erhielt darüber hinaus Aufträge von Kardinal Mazarin und Anna von Österreich. Bei Langlois erschien 1646 die Raccolta di vasi diversi, in deren Entstehungskontext die vorliegende Zeichnung gehört. Della Bellas Vasen bewegen sich zwischen ornamentaler Ideensammlung und Capriccio, sind mit grotesken, floralen und fantastischen Elementen teils so üppig verziert, dass der Übergang vom Kunstgegenstand zum Fantasiegebilde stellenweise verschwimmt. Dies gilt auch für die vorliegende gezeichnete Vase, die in der gedruckten Folge zentral auf Blatt 6 erscheint. Die von Knochen und lorbeerbekränzten Totenköpfen eingefasste Sanduhr, aus der oben buschiges Pflanzenwerk quillt, ist ein prägnantes Beispiel der seit dieser Zeit im Werk des Künstlers vermehrt auftauchenden Vanitas- und Todesthematik. - Wir bitten darum, Zustandsberichte zu den Losen zu erfragen, da der Erhaltungszustand nur in Ausnahmefällen im Katalog angegeben ist. - Please ask for condition reports for individual lots, as the condition is usually not mentioned in the catalogue.
