An unusual pair of Imari Plates, probably first half of 18th century, each well painted with fan panels, birds, food boxes, pine prunus, bamboo and peony, all centred on a vase of chrysanthemum, the underside with flower scrolls, square marks, 21cm (2) CONDITION REPORT: No obvious faults.
A pair of 'Satsuma' Vases, c.1885, each enamelled and gilt with Guanyin and various immortals encircled by white dragons below a Shimazu mon, the sides with Buddhist lion handles, gilt Shimazu mon Yuzan saku, one tail repaired, another with chip, 14.5cm (2) CONDITION REPORT: One tail broken and glued, the other with small chip. Second vase, one Shi Shi with tail glued.
A good 'Satsuma' Vase, c.1870, of square section and after a Chinese Wanli bronze, the facets well decorated with a winged dragon amongst clouds and waves, the reverse with addorsed ho-o, between chrysanthemums growing from a banded fence or peony and bamboo, between false gadroon borders, traces of mark, 25cm The chrysanthemums growing from a banded fence, most commonly seen on Kakiemon porcelain and copied at the early English factories, feature in a poem by the Chinese Six Dynasties poet Tao Qian (365-427). The poem reads: 'I pluck chrysanthemums by the Eastern fence, And see the distant Southern Mountains'. CONDITION REPORT: A small part of gilt character mark remaining, along with blue shimazu mon. otherwise no obvious faults.
A good Hayashi Kodenji cloisonné Vase, c.1885/90, the tapering square section, tall dark-blue body with sparrows, detailed in gold wire on a white-flowered tree above maple and between complex borders, stamped lozenge mark and engraved Nagoya, Hayashi saku, miniscule scratches, 31.2cm CONDITION REPORT: Shoulder has possible hand restoration - please view additional images. Some dents to the silver rim and base rim.
