Chinesische Vase. Zimmermann, Eduard. - Pan-Chan Typ. Bauchiger Krug mit 2 Ösenhenkeln unterhalb der Schulter, zwei weitere kleine Ösenhenkel am Hals. Lehmfarbener Scherben, mit rötlich-blauen Ornamenten. China, ca. 2000-1700 v. Chr. Maße: Höhe ca. 24 cm, Durchmesser ca. 22 cm, Durchmesser der Öffnung ca. 7,5 cm.Bemerkenswerte chinesische Frühkeramik aus dem Besitz des Asien-Reisenden Ed Zimmermann, Teilnehmer der Schwedisch-Chinesischen Expedition nach Zentralasien in den Jahren 1926-35 unter der Leitung von Sven Hedin . Die Expedition mit deutschen, schwedischen und chinesischen Wissenschaftlern verschiedenster Fachrichtungen gilt als eine der größten Expeditionsunternehmungen der Neuzeit. Das Ergebnis war u. a. eine umfassende geowissenschaftliche Erforschung und kartographische Erschließung der Gobi, des Tienschan-Gebirges mit dem Tarimbecken im westlichen China und von Nord-Tibet. - Der Major a. D. und Pilot Eduard Zimmermann (1881-1969) hielt sich von 1925-30 in China auf und war u. a. mit den Vorbereitungen und der Organisation der Expedition betraut; während der zwei Jahre, die er am Rande der Gobi verbrachte, führte er zahlreiche magnetische Messungen durch und fertigte Aufzeichnungen über Wind- und Wetterverhältnisse an, die die Möglichkeit von Flügen über das Wüstengebiet bis nach China und vor allem nach Japan überprüfen sollten. Er hielt sich nahezu zwei Jahre in der Wüste Gobi am Fluß Edsingol auf und legte dort auch Gärten an. Unter den Mongolen hatte er auch den Ruf eines Medicus, er behandelte zahlreiche Kranke in Ermangelung von Medikamenten mit Aspirin und Kölnisch Wasser 4711; so behandelte er erfolgreich einen Neffen des damaligen 13. Dalai Lama, der mit durchschnittener und stark vereiterter Kehle zu ihm gebracht wurde. Als Dank wurde ihm im Rahmen einer Audienz dieser fast 4000 Jahre alte Keramikkrug geschenkt, der sich bis heute im Besitz seiner Familie befindet und nun hier zur Auktion gebracht wird. Ausgestellt wurde dieser Krug 1959 im Düsseldorfer Hetjens-Museum in seiner Sonderschaui `Wandlungen keramischer Kunst` anläßlich seines 50jährigen Bestehens; Ed Zimmermann stellte die Frühkeramik dem Museum für diese Ausstellung zur Verfügung (vgl. die beilieg. Kopie eines Zeitungsartikels mit Abbildung dieses Kruges zusammen mit einer Picasso-Keramik von 1949). Unangenehm realistisch dokumentiert wird diese Reise-Episode durch eine ebenfalls beilieg. Orig.-Fotografie , die Ed Zimmermann bei der Behandlung des kranken Neffen zeigt. Beigefügt sind darüberhinaus eine Kurz-Biographie Zimmermanns sowie 4 Fotoreproduktionen; sie zeigen Zimmermann im 1. Weltkrieg (u. a. auch mit dem Deutschen Kaiser neben seinem Flugzeug) und am Schreibtisch in seiner Hütte in Edsingol. - Erhaltung: Einige Abreibungen und kleinere Abstoßungen, 1 Riß im Hals (ca. 4,5 cm), 1 kl. Abstoßung bei einem Ösenhenkel am Hals. - Provenienz: Aus dem Besitz der Familie Ed Zimmermanns, die uns bereits die Sammlung von Orig.-Fotografien der beschriebenen Asienexpedition zur Versteigerung anvertraut hat (Auktion 379, Nr. 683).
