Known as the Medici Vase, at the time of publication it was in the sculpture gallery at the Villa Medici, and is now in the Uffizi Gallery in Florence. It is believed to have been made about AD 50 to 100 and shows in carved relief the sacrifice of Iphigenia, flanked by the figures of Ulysses and Agamemnon.

At the age of 13 he recieved a scholarship to West Ham School of Art where he studied for 6 years. In 1957 he set up Gogmagog Press resolving to print his own work in his own way. Cox painted in oil and watercolour for over 60 years. In 1994 an exhibition of his work was held at the Victoria & Albert Museum, to celebrate the acquisition of Cox's personal archive of Gogmagog books and early colour prints.
