An Italian carved white marble model of the Warwick Vase, with a pair of entwined handles above a vine leaf and grape frieze, the body decorated with busts, torches and a lion's pelt on a stiff leaf base and a beaded socle, late 18th / early 19th century, 48.7cm high, 73cm wide, together with a pine rectangular plinth. (2) Provenance: Purchased at the Hervey-Bruce sale of the contents of Downhill, Co. Londonderry c.1950. Presented as a gift to P. J. Rankin from the previous owner's sister in 1975. Downhill was a magnificent mansion built by Frederick Augustus Hervey Earl of Bristol and Bishop of Derry in the late 18th century. Neal's 'Views of Seats' 1823 vol. 6 describes the west drawing room at Downhill as containing 'several vases, a beautiful China vase and a model of the Warwick vase' and 'A fine collection of marbles contribute to the very splendid appearance of this apartment' and 'these marbles included a copy of the Warwick vase-large'. An Empire ormolu mantel timepiece, with a white enamel dial with Roman numerals and inscribed 'C. E. Viner Royal Exchange London', in a vase shaped case with swan's head handles and with engine turned decoration, with applied laurel and floral wreaths, 32.8cm high, 16.2cm wide.
A massive George III Irish Waterford cut glass vase and cover, the bell shaped cover with a ball finial above a part faceted and diamond cut body, above a silver rim with lion's mask ring handles, above a conforming base, with vertical faceting and a band of diamond cutting, on a square foot with a silver mount, 56cm high, 22.5cm wide. A George III serpentine brass fender, the beaded edge top above a pierced and engraved front of a vase of flowers, dragons and scrolling foliage, with square fluted column ends with ball finials, 26cm high, 150.5cm wide, 13.3cm deep. Provenance: The North Canonry, The Close, Salisbury.
A George II Irish mahogany side chair, the top rail centred a shell above a vase shaped splat carved with leaves and florets, above a bell shaped drop-in seat on shell capped cabriole legs and paw feet united by wavy stretchers.
