A Victorian parcel-gilt electroplated suite of epergnes in the Greek revival manner, by Elkington and Co., 1878 and 1886, comprising: a pair of shaped oval epergnes, with leaf supports, the bases pierced and mounted with two Sphinx. supporting cut-glass bowls, plus four epergnes, on rounded triangular bases mounted with three winged sphinx, with beaded borders, and hanging chains, on three paw feet, each supporting a cut-glass bowl, plus four vases modelled as standing putti with the glass vase raised in one hand, on fluted circular bases, the glass with engraved decoration, in a fitted wooden case, length of pair of epergnes 27.4cm, height of four epergnes 21.4cm, height of vases 24.2cm. Provenance: A Private Collection. Sworders. Essex, Fine Art Sale, 3 July 2001, lot 515.
A George III silver ewer, by Abraham Peterson & Peter Podio, London 1786, plain vase form, scroll handle, domed hinged cover with a ball finial, engraved with an armorial shield with star mantling, on a raised square foot, height 31cm, approx. weight 24.5oz. The arms and crest are that of Hawkins.
