A pair of late 19th century continental porcelain urns, the bodies with applied cherubs and floral swags, on square bases and with domed flower encrusted lids, 31cm [2] Further Information The condition of these is poor to average. There is quite a considerable amount of damage to both. Around both the vase rims they have two large chips. The body of each vase looks to be ok and free from cracks. The decorative detail is heavily cracked and or missing. The lids on both are damaged also.
A Grainger & Co, Worcester urn shaped vase with twin scroll handles, painted with cattle in a river landscape, on square base the domed cover with finial 34cm Further Information The condition of this vase is good verging on very good. There is only one significant damage that we have picked up on and that is a very small chip towards the base, The gilding is quite worn in some places but for the most of the vase the gilding is still present and in reasonable condition. There is one other minor chip on the rim of the lid of the vase. It is however very very small. It is not noticeable, we have only noticed it due to searching it thoroughly.
A Royal Worcester porcelain cylindrical vase with flared rim and foot, painted with roses, lilies and forget-me-nots, date code 1914, 11.5cm Further Information We believe this lot to be free from damage or restoration. There is a very slight loss of gilding around the top rim and a slight loss around the bottom rim. The other paintwork is fine.
A Royal Crown Derby baluster shaped vase with narrow neck in 1128 Imari pattern, date code 1927, 7cm Further Information The condition of this lot is in very good condition. Very little to comment on, only a very slight loss of gilding around the rim of the vase, and again a very small amount of gilding loss elsewhere on the vase. There are a few small marks around the white ring around the shoulder of the vase. Additional images attached show the points mentioned.
A pair of Chinese tin-glazed earthenware plates painted in blue with a vase and flowers, 22cm [2] Further Information The condition of these plates are quite poor. Both quite heavily damaged around the edges. Both have quite a number of chips but it is only really around the edges. Neither of the plates are cracked. The blue paint work is in good condition on both the plates and shows little sign of age. It is a shame that the chips let the plates down considerably. There are no signs of restoration.
A Royal Worcester porcelain baluster shaped ewer [H242] with floral scroll handle and moulded base, painted with Highland cattle and signed John Stinton, date code 1912, 30cm [please note the vendor informs us that this piece has been restored] Further Information Additional - The restoration has taken place in the neck section of the vase. It is hard to say exactly where the breakage occurred but it is probably that it may well have snapped where the top of the handle starts and the whole top section may have requires to be replaced. The glaze on this top section is rough which suggest that it may all have had to be replaced. The condition of this lot is very good. There are no signs of cracks, chips or breakage's. There does not appear to be any signs of restoration. The paint work is in very good condition. Some slight fading in places but nothing major. There is a small amount of loss to the gilding. We were advised by the vendor that the lot had been restored. Personally, we cannot see any signs of restoration so we are unfortunately unable to locate whereabouts the restoration has taken place. A more experienced eye may well be able to point out if and where any restoration has occurred. Our valuer will be in the office on 20th October so we will ask him to take a close look at this lot and provide a more definitive answer to questions regarding the restoration.
A Royal Doulton lobed gourd shaped pottery vase in flambé glazes monogram F.M 17.5cm Further Information This lot is in very good condition. The vase appears to be free from any damages (cracks/chips, etc.). We cannot see any signs of restoration. There is just one very minor blemish on the vase, it is very small and appears to be some kind of paint. It is hardly noticeable and may well come off if it was to be cleaned properly. We have provided additional images which should show the aforementioned blemish.
A Doulton Lambeth stoneware baluster flagon with incised and applied stylised floral decoration, with silver mount and hinged cover [London 1879], 23.5cm Further Information The condition of this lot is reasonable to good. Restoration is quite visible as glue has been left on and bubbled out. It appears as if the vase may well have lost the base completely at some point as there is a crack that goes the full way around the base. There are several other areas around the mid part of the vase that appear to have been restored, with glue still visible. There appear to be a few 'ball' decorative beading missing, although in the places they are missing it doesn't look like there was ever anything there and may have been like that originally. Apart from the things mentioned, the flagon is in quite reasonable condition considering the age of the item. We have attached some additional images so you are able to see the restoration and condition of this lot.
A Poole pottery 'Studio' squat baluster vase with narrow neck, moulded with cobble stone pattern in green glaze 33cm Further Information Although it states in the catalogue that it is 33cm, the circumferences is actually 40cm, at its widest part the height is 13cm, and the diameter is about 12cm at its widest part. The condition of this lot overall is good. There are one or two minor things which effect the condition. At the very top of the neck of the vase, almost at the rim of the green glaze, it appears as if it has bubbled up then popped, leaving a hole/crater where the glaze should have been. Each hole is relatively small, there are 4 small holes in total. A similar thing has happened further down the vase in one place, leaving another minor hole. Other than the points mentioned, we have not picked up on any other damage. There are no cracks or chips, etc. We have attached additional photos for you to see the damage and make a decision for yourself. Overall, even despite these minor flaws, we would say the condition is good.
