A George III silver bead-edged ewer by William Holmes & Nicholas Dumee, London, 1773The vase-shaped body and waisted neck striped with alternate plain and textured vertical bands separated by a bead-edged frieze of drapery swags tied with ribbons and pendent tassels, the handle formed from two entwined serpents and raffia-bound, the latter with decoration woven into it, acorn finial to domed cover, front applied with oval cartouche edged with ribbon-tied laurel wreath and engraved with crest of an armoured arm embossed, holding aloft a jousting lance with victor's wreath around it and a broken off tip to lance, the pedestal foot with stiff laurel leaf border above occasional rosettes, 32cm. high, 36 oz. (1116 gm.), lion passant inside cover, fully marked inside centre of foot.
A set of three George III vase-shaped silver tea caddies, maker's mark indistinct, London, 1769Of ovoid, part spirally fluted form, applied above the fluting with masks and ribbon-tied laurel swags below upright ring handles, on pedestal foot with gadroon borders, conforming domed covers with knop finials, each engraved with a fox statant crest, the larger example 20cm. high, the smaller pair 17.5cm high, 39.5 oz. (1224 gm.) (3).
