A SMALL JAPANESE BRONZE VASE MEIJI OR TAISHO PERIOD, 20TH CENTURY Shaped as a double gourd with a small frog climbing to the side, raised on three short circular feet and signed Shiryu underneath, 8.5cm.

A JAPANESE SHIBAYAMA LACQUER AND SILVER VASE MEIJI PERIOD, 19TH CENTURY Modelled as the God of Good Fortune Hotei's treasure sack and raised on three silver feet shaped as small rats, the sides with two shaped panels enclosing birds and flowers in between silver and enamel medallion appliqués with floral designs, the surface decorated in gold lacquer hiramaki-e and nashiji, the base signed in a shaped lacquer reserve, 17.2cm.

A JAPANESE VASE BY SEIFU YOHEI III (1851-1914) MEIJI OR TAISHO PERIOD, 20TH CENTURY The ovoid body decorated with a continuous design of butterflies fluttering amongst large peonies, with leafy branches depicted in various shades of green on a deep honey-yellow ground, with details incised and others rendered in low relief, the base signed Seifu, raised on a wood stand and with two tomobako wooden boxes, the inner box inscribed Hyakka nishiki botan no zu kabin (flower vase with hundred colourful peonies) with seal, the lid signed Seifu tsukuru (made by Seifu), the outer box with similar inscriptions, 26cm. A TALL JAPANESE VASE BY KIZAN MEIJI PERIOD, 19TH OR 20TH CENTURY The tall baluster body richly decorated with a dense design of shaped panels and fans with large blooms, landscapes, birds and butterflies, some areas rendered en grisaille, with many details highlighted in gilt, the neck applied with two lion's mask ring handles, the base signed Dai Nihon Kizan sei, 63cm.

A LARGE KOREAN BLUE AND WHITE DRAGON VASE JOSEON DYNASTY, 19TH CENTURY The tall baluster-shaped body decorated in underglaze cobalt blue with two writhing dragons, the beasts flying amongst scrolling clouds, wispy whorls and bullocho fungi, their jaws open and baring their fangs, the rim, shoulder and foot with two concentric rings, 53cm. See Brooklyn Museum, access. no.80.120.1 for a comparable vase.

TWO JAPANESE GOSU SATSUMA PIECES MEIJI PERIOD, 19TH CENTURY One a tall baluster vase decorated in thick enamels with a continuous scene of auspicious designs, curtains with brocade patterns, maples leaves, Genji ko no zu symbols referring to specific chapters in the Tale of Genji, and a large phoenix above, the neck with a band of lappets, inscribed 'Satsuma'; the other a koro of bulbous form raised on three shaped feet, with a large kirin prancing above scrolling waves, with chrysanthemum flowers to the reverse and the shoulder with fan-shaped panels, with a faint signature Satsuma, 32.5cm and 16cm respectively. A FINE JAPANESE CLOISONNE ENAMEL VASE BY HAYASHI KODENJI (1831-1915) MEIJI PERIOD, 19TH CENTURY The slender baluster body richly worked in gold and silver wire, decorated with a flutter of sparrows, some small birds flying on the dark navy-blue ground and others perched amongst branches of prunus, with an abundance of blossoms including sakura, chrysanthemum, daisies, irises, lily, carnations and others amongst dense foliage, the neck decorated with chrysanthemum flowerheads and scrolling tendrils, the rim and foot with a band of flowers, the base signed Aichi Hayashi saku, the four characters inscribed around the diamond-shaped mark for the Hayashi Kodenji workshop of Nagoya, together with a fitted wood stand, 18cm. (2) Provenance: from a private English collection acquired in the late 19th century.
