A Delft apothecary or tobacco jar, 2nd half 18th century, the ovoid form painted in blue with an elaborate cartouche surmounted by a vase of flowers, inscribed 'Tonca', marked for The Ewer (de Lampetkan) pottery, a chip to the rim, 21.3cm.Tonka beans are now a banned substance in many countries, but had a variety of occult and more mundane uses. Some believed that desires could be fulfilled by carrying around a bean until the wish came true and then burying or stamping on it.
An early Brislington delftware vase or jar, c.1705-15, painted in blue, red, green and yellow with a dancing Chinaman to two sides between flowering plants beneath sponged clouds, the handles issuing from coils and picked out in blue and red dashes, the narrower base with a formal band of stiff leaves, 14cm.Cf. A rare and early Bow vase and cover, c.1750-52, the baluster form well painted with flowering peony branches issuing from blue holey rockwork, the shoulder and cover's rim with a border of flowerhead panels reserved on a red trellis ground edged in yellow and blue, incised R to the base, the cover broken in half and restored, 18cm. A Wedgwood turquoise Florentine W2714 pattern part dinner service, 20th century, Portland Vase printed mark to underside, comprising: two oval platters, the largest 38.5cm long, a rectangular twin handled tray, a gravy boat and saucer, eight dinner plates, 26cm diameter, eight salad plates, eight cake plates, eight side plates, eight pudding bowls, and seven twin handled soup bowls with eight associated saucers (lot) Condition Report: Some light signs of prior use. Light scratching to the porcelain on most plates, some surface dirt and staining, no obvious defects or damage detected.

The top of the head with a a tiny glazing flaw. There is a horizontal firing fracture to the yellow drapery across the left foot. Inevitable small nicks to the petals of the urn and base. The lot would benefit from a gentle clean.

However, please note that the handle has been removed and is not sold with the lot. The jug wobbles slightly on the stand (possibly pushed down slightly on foot as pierced quatrefoils slightly compressed in places). General surface scratching, pitting and nicking. Some dings and bruising to the jug. Some discolouration and cracking to the ivory finial. Hallmarks to underside clear. Hinge and cover in good condition. Some wear to decoration on body. Stand and burner in good condition. Some dings to burner. Hallmarks clear to burner and stand. Some wear to chased decoration on stand.

A large Belgian bronze torchere stand, c.1870, after a model by Jacques-Louis Gautier, cast by Compagnie Anonyme des Bronzes, Bruxelles, of Neo-Grec style, the dished top with palmettes and relief cast trailing foliage to frieze, the tapering shaft with swags descending to a base with conforming palmettes and claw feet on a triform plinth, the base inscribed J. Gautier Sculpteur / Compagnie Anonyme des Bronzes Bruxelles, 140cm high, 70cm diameter at base ( VAT charged on the Hammer price)Provenance: Sotheby's, 1 October 2008, lot 401.Note: Jacques-Louis Gautier, born in Paris on 13 December 1831, was a pupil of François Rude (d. 1855), and exhibited at the Salon from 1850 to 1868 (S. Lami, Dictionnaires Sculpteurs de l'ecole Française au dix-neuvième siècle, Paris, 1919, pp. 25-27). Gautier executed a significant number of models, produced by leading bronze foundries; in 1858, a Louis XVI vase decorated with diverse ornaments and four bas-reliefs representing l'Ivresse, l'Amour, les Ris et lEau, executed by Christofle, and the same year a design for small vases again with bas-reliefs in the Etruscan style, executed by M. Perrot for Maison Barbedienne.
A pair of French gilt-bronze and champlevé enamel urns, c.1880, in the manner of Barbedienne, each with flared rim and concave profile neck above tapered cylindrical body, with twin female bust handles, on waisted socle with acanthus decoration above circular base with four scrolling gilt-bronze feet, 30.5cm high Condition Report: Each vase has discolouration to the enamelling, possibly from attempted polishing or cleaning of the metal. The rim and shoulder of one vase is warped possibly from denting. Each of the socle bases are slightly loose from the bodies and can be moved with force. The feet each have drill holes possibly indicating they once stood on decorative bases.

The saucer with three small flat chip to the underside of the rim (not visible when viewed face on), crescent-shaped 0.8 cm., 0.5 cm. and 0.3 cm. wide. Tiny flat glaze chip to the side of the footrim. Some wear to the broad gilt band around the rim of the saucer and some wear and minor scratching to the enamels in the centre, particularly to the shoulder of the standing figure. The teabowl in good order with just a little wear to the gilt upper rim and a small patch of wear to the gilt band around the footrim.

A section of the upper rim has sagged in the firing and is overturned, and furthermore there is a narrow crescent-shaped chip to this section of the rim, approximately 1.4 cm. across, with a small flat chip to the edge of the rim nearby. There are a few minor small chips scattered around the footrim. A section of branch, leaf and flower decoration is lacking on one side of the central body section of the vase, with traces of where the decoration was attached to the vase remaining. There are further small chips and losses to the applied branches, leaf tips and petal. There does not appear to be any restoration.

The upper rim with three flat oval restored chips with associated regilding, the largest 1.5 cm. wide. Some wear to the gilding overall, on foot and to ropetwist moulded borders. Area of gilt band completely worn away above moulded figural frieze, 4.5 cm. long. Typical minor firing crack to upper rim. The cover with final broken off and restuck with evidence of some associated overpainting and regilding to top of domed cover and upper part of the scalloped gilt decoration on the top of the cover. 4.5 cm. area of restored chipping to rim with associated filling and regilding to gadroon border. One snake with 3.5 cm long section of body a restored and restuck replacement and a further 4.5 cm. long section of the body broken out and lacking, and end section of tail a restored replacement. The other snake with tip of tail chipped and lacking and a short area of restoration in the same area, though the head and rest of the body remain intact.
A pair of French gilt-bronze mounted Samson powder-blue ground famille verte jars and covers, second half19th century, each painted to the body with four panels of leafy blossoming branches, the shoulder with four further cartouches of floral motifs, later associated mounts, 58cm high including cover and mount (2)Note: A very similar vase of this model appears in F. Slitine, Samson, génie de l'imitation, Paris, 2002, p. 43.Provenance: The Geoffrey and Fay Elliot collection.Condition Report: The porcelain: one cover has been broken and put back together, with very visible restoration to the blue ground and the interior, and some large losses to the rims. The green glaze of the panels on one vase has some losses and general crazing. Both vases have some firing flaws to the footrim. The mounts: heavy verdigris to the metal across both vases, some visible adhesive residue from the fitting of the mounts to the porcelain.
A pair of George III blue jasperware flower vases and covers, by Neale & Co., late 18th century, impressed mark NEALE & CO, the pierced covers with basket finials, the sides decorated with panels of classical figures, 21cm high (2) Provenance: with Jeremy Ltd, London, 1995 (£6,500).Note: Neale & Co. were the most skilled of Josiah Wedgwood's neighbouring factories. They made fine Jasper Ware that equalled in every way the products of Wedgwood.Condition Report: One vase with a large loss to the footrim. Some firing cracks to each vase including a large one to the interior edge measuring 5.5cm. A couple of small marks and firing flaws to the lids. The body of each vase is slightly warped from the manufacturing process. Some general light marks and surface dirt.
A pair of English simulated bamboo pottery spill vases, possibly Minton, c.1870, modelled as three upright canes, on naturalistic bases, unmarked, 20cm high (2)Condition Report: Examined under UV light. Both vases have professional restoration to the smallest of the three bamboo stalks, and to small areas of the taller stalks of each vase. One vase has a large chip and several small hairline cracks and firing flaws to the base, the other has a hairline crack and a couple of firing flaws to the base. Both vases are heavily crazed.
