The lid - some glaze loss to the edge of the rim. Small flake chip to the underside of rim and some minor scattered pitting. Tip of finial some glaze loss. The vase - scattered pitting to neck. Burst air bubble s and flake chips to glaze on rim of neck.1.5ins vertical fault to the bulbous section of the body. Some scattered bubbles and pitting to the body. Several small flake chips and glaze loss round the foot rim.

Flaking to the glaze all along the edge of cover with some discolouration. Three small flake chips to underside of rim. The vase - scattered pitting to the glaze. Small flake chip to inside of rim. Two large hairline cracks running around the shoulder covering at least 2/3 of an area. Some losses and touch-ins along this crack line. The hairlines run up into the rim. Firing fault at the lower section of one of the panels of the shoulder. Small glaze crack at the bulbous section of the body. Scattered burst air bubbles. 80mm horizontal firing fault in the lower section. Some flaking to the glaze around the foot rim and some further firing faults on the foot rim.

Just above the foot rim there is an approximately 8mm wide narrow chip to the enamel. Smaller flake chips further around and some minor losses along the line with the base. Scattered light surface scratches.

One vase with the bird facing to the right has a small loss to the turquoise background to the left of the lower branch. The other vase has a flake chip at the lower section to the right of the branches and crack which goes up near the flowers. Another small chip near the foot rim further around. Ivo Hauptmann (Erkner 1886 - Hamburg 1973). Blumen in einer Vase. 1965. Aquarell über Kohlezeichnung. 38,5 x 47 cm. Ungerahmt. R. u. sign. und dat. Ivo Hauptmann 1965. - Landschafts-, Stilleben- und Figurenmaler, Sohn des Nobelpreisträgers Gerhart Hauptmann. H. begann sein Studium 1903 an der Académie Julian in Paris, wo er auch die Ateliers von Maillol, Bonnard, Denis und Vuillard besuchte. Er setzte seinen Unterricht an der Kunstschule Lewin-Funcke in Berlin fort, sein Lehrer dort war L. Corinth. 1904-08 folgte ein Studium an der Weimarer Akademie bei H. Olde. 1909-12 war er wiederum in Paris und freundete sich mit P. Signac an, mit dem zusammen er 1911 auch beim Salon des Indépendants ausstellte. H. lebte in der Folge abwechselnd in Hamburg, Dresden und Berlin, wo er zu den Gründungsmitgliedern der Freien Sezession gehörte. 1927 trat er der Hamburgischen Sezession bei. Er wurde 1961 mit dem Bundesverdienstkreuz und 1964 mit dem Edwin-Scharff-Preis geehrt. H. gehörte zu den Hauptmeistern der Avantgarde in Deutschland, dem es wie wenigen anderen gelungen ist, die Leichtigkeit von Licht und Farbe in der Landschaft ins Bild zu setzen.
