A Chinese blue and white 'nine' dragon bottle vase, Jiaqing mark and period (1796-11820), the rounded sides rising from a short straight foot, to a tapering cylindrical neck, painted with six dragons chasing a flaming pearl amongst trailing clouds and flame scrolls, with three dragons emerging from swirling waves, with a thin band of ruyi below the rim and a thin band of key-fret at the foot, the six character seal mark in underglaze-blue 30.5cm high.Provenance: English private collection since the 1880s. Condition Report: There is a 5cm by 8cm semi-circular section of the rim that has been broken and re-glued. There is also a long arcing crack running from near to the foot across the body, approx 27cmFootnote:The design of nine dragons painted amongst trailing clouds, flame scrolls and swirling waves derives from imperial designs of the earlier Qianlong period (1736-1795).
