A CERAMIC LUSTRE AND ENAMELLED TILE, ESIAS BOSCH (1923 - 2010) depicting flowers in a vase in various colours, single tile panel set on an original wooden frame 43,5cm square Esias Bosch studied at the University of Witwatersrand and at the Johannesburg School of Art before winning a three year scholarship to study ceramics in Britain. Returning to South Africa he was a pioneer of studio pottery at his Die Randjie studio. Inspiration to produce his large tiles came from seeing the Keramion Museum, Germany clad in large Buchtal tiles, rebuilding his kiln to fit various size tiles, he first worked with ordinary tiles and then moved onto experimenting with lustre glazes. This lot is a wonderful example of this accessible work.
