A magnificent Chinese Imperial dragon and phoenix jar, Jiaqing six character iron red seal mark and of the period (1796-1820) 一個宏偉的中國科舉龍和鳳凰瓶,嘉慶六個字符鐵紅印章標誌,嘉慶期間, 1796-1820 decorated in enamels, iron-red and gilt, with a strident dragon and a phoenix in flight amongst exotic flowers and scrolls, a stylised band around the top and bottom, the interior and base glazed turquoise 25.5cm high Provenance:The vendors relative was one Mr Robin Johnson who was trained as a lawyer in Australia and went to the UK in the late 1800`s Greatly interested in horses and polo, Johnson joined the army as an officer and was posted to India in the late 1800`s.He was then sent with joint forces to the East at the time of the Boxer rebellion with the British Army. After this he was posted to India and during this time he met an English lady on the ship to Calcutta whom he eventually married circa 1900 –1902. They lived in UK until the great depression when they came back to live in his native Australia, where they lived in Sydney where they both died around the 1940`s Johnson bought this vase and other items back from China after the Boxer rebellion circa 1901 to India and then to the UK and then finally back to Australia.It was then inherited by the current vendor by direct descent and has never been on the market since it was bought by Robin Johnson Circa 1900.
