HAYASHI HACHIZAEMON (CIRCA 1850-1908), A JAPANESE CLOISONNÉ ENAMEL VASE MEIJI-TAISHO ERA Of tapering cylindrical form with slightly splayed foot and a broad, everted mouth, decorated on the light blue ground with convolvulus flowers and tendrils, gilded to base and interior neck, mounted with shakudo foot and rim, engraved mark "Hachi" within a circle 27.9cm highHayashi Hachizaemon was taught by Tsukamoto Kaisuke who was one of the most influential enamellers of the 1860s and who had also taught Hayashi Kodenji. In 1875 he went with Kaisuke to the Ahrens Company in Tokyo to learn advanced western enamelling techniques. He exhibited his work through the Nagoya Shippo Kaisha at the 1881 Second National Industrial Exposition in Ueno Park, Tokyo. * ETHEL WALKER (SCOTTISH b. 1941), THE JAPANESE VASE gouache on paper, signed, titled label versomounted, framed and under glassimage size 54cm x 48cm, overall size 78cm x 71cm Label verso: The Rowan Gallery, Drymen.Note: Ethel Walker was born in Ayrshire, Scotland, in 1941. She graduated from the Glasgow School of Art in 1964 where she had been taught by David Donaldson, once the Queen's portrait painter. Beginning her career as a teacher, by the age of twenty-seven she was a full-time artist. Walker is one of the most successful female painters working in Scotland today. Her talent in capturing the ever-changing light of the Scottish landscape is outstanding, and her subtle but strong still life paintings are highly-prized. Work is held in many public and corporate collections worldwide, including the Royal Bank of Scotland and Sara Lee Holdings. In The Scottish Contemporary Art Auction of 12th September 2021 "The Silver Table" (lot 562), a mixed media by Ethel Walker sold for £2600 (hammer) and in our December 2021 auction "The Lace Cloth" achieved £3000 (hammer).

Two scraffito decorated art pottery items by Eiwa Keramik Germany, consisting of a bulbous vase and a ewer shape handled vase. Typical brown glaze with hand-applied decoration. West German 1960s. Scratched signatures and numbers to bases, one bearing original label. 15 cm high the tallest. Ewer in good condition, crack to rim of bulbous vase.

A Constance Spry (1886-1960) for Fulham Pottery twin handled earthenware mantel vase c.1935, pale Devon clay fired to light cream and unglazed to exterior, clear glazed within. Measures 48.5 cm wide by 21 cm high by 16 cm deep. Condition: Good condition, general dirtiness and spotting. Would benefit from gentle cleaning.

A modern miniature Moorcroft vase together with a collection of numerous enamel boxes, the vase in "Fly Away Home" pattern (depicting a ladybird) retaining its original retailer's label, the boxes including examples by Halcyon Days, Moorcroft, Crummels and Staffordshire Enamels.
