Provenance: from a UK private collection, acquired in the 1970s.
A LARGE CHINESE ARCHAISTIC CELADON GLAZED VASE LATE QING DYNASTY The ovoid body surmounted by a short neck, carved with taotie masks set between lappets and stylised motifs, all raised on a short foot, decorated all over in a sage green glaze, 43.7cm. Provenance: from the collection of Sir Thomas (12th January 1888-10th October 1969) and Lady Merton, Stubbings House, Maidenhead, Berkshire, and thence by descent.
A CHINESE CELADON GLAZED CHILONG VASE LATE 19TH CENTURY Carved to the exterior with two chilong clutching branches of lingzhi in their mouths, the mythical beasts writhe amongst stylised foliage, with a continuous scroll to the tall flaring neck, all raised on a flared foot incised with a band of key fret, decorated all over in a pale green glaze, 27.2cm.
A CHINESE COPPER-RED GLAZED PEAR-SHAPED VASE AND A FLAMBE GLAZED BOTTLE VASE 19TH/20TH CENTURY The yuhuchunping raised on a slightly flared foot, decorated to the interior and exterior with a deep red glaze, with white to the rim and base, the bottle vase surmounted by a tall cylindrical neck, decorated with a dark red crackled glaze, 30.8cm and 33.6cm. A CHINESE BLUE AND WHITE OVOID VASE AND COVER 19TH CENTURY Painted with sprays of flowering prunus branches, the design contained between large ruyi-head shaped panels enclosing stylised blooms amongst scrolling foliage, the cover similarly decorated with prunus and a band of ruyi-heads, 29cm. (2)
