Edizione originale della prima parte del trattato dello zoologo francese Guillame Rondelet, arricchito di un vasto apparato di xilograficie su disegno di Georges Reverdy e un ritratto dell`autore, sempre inciso in legno, di mano di Pierre Vase. Si tratta di uno dei tre più importanti libri illustrati di ittiologia del Cinquecento, tra i primi a descrivere non creature marine fantastiche ma pesci, cetacei, molluschi e crostacei realmente esistenti, secondo un metodo che sarà ripreso da Francis Willoughby, John Ray, Pietro Artedi e Linnaeus.
