An RSTK `Amphora` pottery portrait vase Circa 1897, Riessner, Stellmacher & Kessel, design attributed to Nikolaus Kannhauser, with impressed mark ``Amphora`` within an oval and model number ``2039``, the wide mouth over a tapering cylindrical body on a bulbous foot, polychrome glazed and gilt decorated with a portrait of a maiden, the Winter Queen, wearing a veil and a ``jeweled`` crown, centered on a banded ground comprising a mottled gilt middle section between narrower bands of black and ivory stripes, with a lavender landscape frieze above and a green band with a garland of ``jeweled`` roses below, 9.25`` H x 4`` Dia. A large Pierre D`Avesn molded black glass vase Circa 1930, molded mark to base ``PD`AVESN`` (Pierre D`Avesn, 1901 - 1991 French) and ``FRANCE``, the circular rim over a tapering body decorated in high relief with a repeating pattern of birds of paradise and exotic flowers and foliage, 12.25`` H x 10`` Dia. Note: Pierre d`Avesn, having previously worked for Lalique, was hired by Daum to design and supervise the production of glass at Croismare Glassworks near Luneville, which they took over in 1927 and renamed Verreries D`Art Lorrain. Art glass produced by Daum at this factory was signed ``P.d`Avesn`` or ``Lorrain`` or ``Val``. Pierre d`Avesn stayed with Daum until they closed the Lorrain factory in 1932. An official trophy presented to a member of the German gold medal winning handball team at the 1936 Berlin Olympic Games, in the form of a Bohemian crystal vase by Moser of Karlovy Vary (modern day Czech Republic), with a panel of two handball players in raised relief, the reverse with an eagle perched on Olympic Rings above the legend BERLIN 1936, extensively inscribed in German with details of the prize of the International Amateur Handball Federation to the German gold medal winning team. also inscribed DEUTSCHLAND-OSTERREICH, height 34cm., 13 1/2in. Germany won the handball competition at the Berlin Games. There was in fact no final tie, rather a final consisting of a round robin between Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Hungary. However, as it turned out the last match of the group between Germany and Austria was effectively a final as both teams has won their two earlier matches. Germany beat Austria 10-6 to maintain their 100% record in the tournament and claim the gold medal. Unlike today, the handball matches were played outdoors on a turf pitch.
