An early Martin Brothers stoneware vase by Robert Wallace Martin cylindrical form incised with roundels and radiating foliate panels in shades of blue on a grey ground incised R W Martin London 2-1877 N17 repaired damages 36.5cm. high. This vase shows similarities in style to examples produced by the French potter Jean-Charles Cazin engravings of which were published in Revue de l’Art Ancien et Moderne. These engravings published in 1901 were drawn by Edgar Kettle who worked at the Martin Brothers pottery and date from before 1875 when Cazin left the nearby Fulham Pottery.
