18TH CENTURY DUTCH SCHOOL FOLLOWER OF PIETER CASTEELS (1684-1749)"Flowers in a basket on a stone ledge with butterflies and bee", oil on canvas, unsigned, and "Flowers in a vase with butterflies, beetle and fly", oil on canvas, a pair, unsigned, 82 cm x 63.5 cm (ONE ILLUSTRATED) CONDITION REPORTS Both still lifes in need of a clean, edges to each have a little aged wear and some flaking. When inspected under ultra-violet light conditions one still life has significant black markings to top right-hand corner, also immediately below the pink and white carnations extending to the bottom edge left. Under ultra-violet light, the other still life appears to have no significant black markings similar to the other still life. Both frames with some flaking, scuffs, splits and minor losses (see photos).
An exhibition quality Royal Crown Derby vase and cover, circa 1889-90, of large size with cobalt ground with richly raised gilding and elaborately pierced handles, reverse painted with views of Chatsworth House and bridge at Bonsall Dale, attributed to Cuthbert Gresley, the elaborate gilding by J.J. Brownsword, shape number 545. Footnote: this superb piece of exhibition quality was on loan at Royal Crown Derby from 2000-2002 to celebrate 250 years of Royal Crown Derby.
