each slightly differing pear-shaped and on spreading foot, with beaded borders, the hinged covers with either an acorn or vase-shaped finial, with wood handle, one engraved underneath with an inscription dated 178431cm high and slightly smallerProvenance:The example dated 1784: Fellows and Sons Limited, Birmingham, 10 December 2012, lot 255.There are surface scratches and wear, consistent with age and use. The example with the acorn finial has had a solder repair to one side of the bottom of the spout. It is engraved 'GP Born 1784' underneath. There is also a bruise on the foot and to one side of the body. Both have probably been re-plated.

A Meissen Porcelain Reticulated Vase, circa 1755, allegorical of fire, modelled by Johann Joachim Kaendler, of scroll moulded and pierced baluster form issuing flames, with three leaf-scroll handles, applied with a dragon and snake on a circular base applied with the infant Vulcan35cm highKaendler's work reports for October, November and December 1747 record the making of a set of vases as the elements Water and Fire in October, Air in November, Earth in December. The following year a similar set were described with a note to say that they were an order for Graf von Brühl. These examples were of a monumental size, the set ranging from 58.4cm to 67.3cm. For examples of Air and Water of the same size as the current lot see Sotheby's, New York, 12 April 2022, lot 81Neck detached. Some significant losses, particularly to snake and dragon. Some wear throughout.
