A rare Poole Pottery Atlantis vase by Guy Sydenham, tapering pear shaped body, modelled with a stylised face, glazed in green, her exotic hair carved and matt glazed black, impressed Poole mark Guy Sydenham monogram, 32cm. high Literature British Art Pottery Woolley and Wallis Auctioneers, 30th November 2006, lot 971 for a comparable Poole Atlantis figural vase by Guy Sydenham which sold for £2500. It is believed to be one of six such vases produced.

LARGE ITALIAN CANTAGALLI BLUE AND WHITE, TIN GLAZED, BALUSTER SHAPED POTTERY VASE, having waved rim, entwined serpent hand and mask mounts, overall decorated with Classical figures in Italian landscapes in underglaze painted blue. Black painted cockerel with no.: 19- ? 16? to the base. 49cm high. CONDITION REPORT: Frits and repaired ??? to the neck in places, minor chips to extremities elsewhere.
PAIR OF HAND PAINTED CONTINENTAL CYLINDER VASES raised on four gilt, scrolled feet, having grapes, foliage and satyr mask mounts, hand painted with cattle and ducks in landscape within pink borders. Unmarked, possibly French. 33.5cm high. (2) CONDITION REPORT: One foot has been off and repaired on one vase. Gilding is worn in places as expected, minor chips to grape and foliage mounts, some minor wear to painting, further chips to foliage on other vase.
19TH CENTURY MAHOGANY UPHOLSTERED HOOP BACKED PARLOUR SIDE CHAIR, having foliate scroll moulded pierced splat, padded drop-in seat and vase shaped foliate and reed moulded front legs on brass casters. CONDITION REPORT: Upholstery is scruffy and worn but the chair appears basically sound if rather grubby.

Attributed to Minton, a pair of mid Victorian majolica vases, each with sea green caryatid handles above mask terminals on ochre yellow ground ovoid bodies between classically decorated turquoise ground waisted necks and socles, the paintings after Raphael's tondos in the Stanze de la Signatura of the Apostolic Palace, Rome carried out from 1509-11 depicting amorini holding inscribed tablets flanking seated figures, Thomas Goode paper label, 55cm (21.5 in) high (2) (D) Literature: For an illustration of similar caryatid handles and the painting on the Prometheus vase, see, Karmason and Stacke, 'Majolica', page 40 Other Notes: The attribution to Minton for the present vases might be projected further to suggesting that the caryatid handles are redolent of the shapes and designs of Pierre Emile Jeannest (1813-1857). The Fitzwilliam Museum holds a ewer with a caryatid handle and the Victoria and Albert Museum a wine cooler. Thomas Allen (1831-1915) might be suggested as the painter of these vases on the basis of his work on the Prometheus vase. Allen worked with Thomas Kirkby (1824-1901) for a time at Minton's and both ceramic artists did work for the universal exhibitions in the mid 19th century. Lined. Paint layer has slightly raised edges to the craquelure in some areas. Varnish degraded, matte and slightly yellowed.

Atwood / pinx. 1731" oil on canvas 86 x 82cm (34 x 32in) Provenance: From a Norfolk country house. Lined canvas. Surface texture has been slightly flattened by lining. Paint layer is stable. Retouching, especially in the dark background. Varnish is clear and even. Out of its frame which is good quality plaster.
