A GORDON FORSYTH STUDIO POTTERY VASE Of baluster form with herringbone pattern on a green ground with the artist`s initials to the base G.M.F. 1941, 31cm high, 20cm wide Gordon Forsyth was born in Fraserburgh, Scotland in 1879. He played a pivotal role in British ceramic pottery for over forty years. He worked for Minton Hollins & Co, Stoke on Trent in 1903, Pilkingtons in 1906, and in 1920 he became Superintendent of Art Instruction, Stoke on Trent, where he was responsible for Burslem School of Art and tutored Susie Cooper, Clarice Cliff, Charlotte Rhead and Mabel Leigh. Some of his work can be found on display at The Stoke on Trent and The Victoria and Albert Museums. He died in 1952 aged 73.
Victorian cut glass lidded vase with facetted lid, thumb cut body supported on star cut octagonal base, also a pair of candlesticks fitted with sit in sconces, (2) 32cm high Condition report: All pieces have tiny nicks to the edges of facets and rims but nothing defacing or noticeable except those listed below. Vase: a chip to the inner foot rim of the lid. Candlestick 1: chip to the foot, crack at the pontil mark probably from production. Candlestick 2: chip to one point on the base. Chinese blue and white baluster vase painted with prunus blossom, four character mark of Kangxi but later, height 27cm, together with a pierced hardwood lid and a stand; also a blue and white vase painted with a dragon amongst clouds, height 17.5cm (2) Condition report: The larger vase has a hairline crack to the base.
