(Rhomboid group) dated to c.325-315 BC.Painted in red figure technique with added white decoration, the front of the krater shows two hoplites fighting a griffin. This is a rare depiction which as far as we know occurs only from the workshop of the Branicki painter. The only other example known to us is in the Ure Museum of the University of Reading, UK. It features a griffin and a single hoplite:Rf: Trendall attributes this type of vase to the earlier style of the Branicki painter (which is of higher standard than his later works). The back of the krater shows three robed women with elaborate hair decorations. The pronounced thick black V-shaped décolletage is a typical feature of the Branicki painter, as are the rhomboids in the field. - 410mm, 4650gr - ca.325-315BC - Ex - private Buckinghamshire collection.
