The girls' rural upbringing had a great influence on their work which was of very high quality. Each piece of pottery was first started as a drawn sketch and then incised into the wet clay before firing. This method was labour intensive and therefore very expensive. Hannah became known as the factory's most renowned decorator, concentrating on mainly British farm animal studies, whereas Florence was known for her floral and bird decoration.
