Note: accompanying the vase is a letter dated 1981 to Mr Cross from auctioneer Mark Bridgford giving details of the consignor's great uncle, a William Hague who lived at The Hollies, Frederick St, Oldham. He was a Cotton Master who had a passion for antiques and the first man in Oldham to own a Rolls-Royce, (and the last to own a horse and carriage). Although it is not known where he purchased the vase in question, Bridgford suggests it is likely he would have known the Pilkington family personally.
