They believed in distancing their work from craft associations arguing that pots should be seen as fine art.Washington taught at the Derby College of Art at either side of World War II, before becoming principal of Dewsbury and then Margate Schools of Art. His work showed the clear influence of Murray, but with his own interpretation of the figure.
