* GERASIMOV, SERGEI (1885-1964) Still Life with a Vase, signed with initials, also further indistinctly signed and titled in Cyrillic on the reverse. Oil on cardboard, 70 by 53 cm. Provenance: With the Moscow Union of Artists (partly preserved label on the reverse).Private collection, Europe. Authenticity of the work has been confirmed by the expert V. Petrov. Authenticity certificate from the expert T. Zelyukina.
A fine quality silver mounted cut glass vase, of elongated trumpet form with waved and serrated rim over brilliant cut body of various designs, on hexagonal silver base, Birmingham 1919, 13¼in. (33.7cm.) high. * Condition: Three small chips and a few tiny frits to rim. Horizontal scratch visible to interior of vase at base (caused by cleaning). Two small dings to base. Some rubbing to marks but still legible.
Two Carstens West German 'Fat Lava' pottery vases, one of ribbed straight sided form with a thick red lava drip over treacle glaze, original factory label, relief factory and pattern no. 7872-30 marks to base, 11¾in. (29.8cm.) high; the other of compressed drum form with everted disc collar, gnarled beige finish over dark brown ground, relief factory and pattern no. 7324-20 marks to base, 9in. (22.75cm.) high; together with two other German pottery vases. (4) * Condition: - Lava drip vase: Small glaze flake just above base. Rubbed area to surface of dark glaze on neck.- Drum form vase: Small chip to base. - Two other vases: In good condition.
Three pieces of Whitefriars glass, 1960s, comprising a circular sapphire blue controlled bubble ashtray, 8in. (20.3cm.) diameter; a smaller example in smoked glass, 6in. (15.3cm.) diameter; and a miniature ovoid vase in green glass bearing Whitefriars label, 4¾in. (12cm.) high. (3) * Condition: Tiny 2mm. chip to rim of small ashtray. Scratching to base on both ashtrays from use, and also to domed centre of large ashtray. Vase very good.
A large Doulton Lambeth stoneware artware vase, probably by Eliza Simmance, impressed factory mark and '1880', incised 'ES 801', of broad baluster form, the exterior with leaf shaped panels with butterflies on prunus foliage, within overall stylised floral and foliate decoration, 11½in. (29.25cm.) high, with ceramic Oriental style stand. (2) * Condition: Good condition, with no chips, cracks or restoration.
A German modernist vase, 1950s-60s, by Great Entwurf of Bavaria, printed factory marks, of asymmetric bag form, decorated with fish and shells on a black ground, within silver mounted borders, 5½in. (14cm.) high; together with two similar pieces, a pitcher by Alka of Bavaria, 6in. (15.25cm.) high; and a saucer by Hutschenruther, both with similar floral decoration. (3) * Condition.: All three pieces in good condition, with no damage or restoration.
Three Dumler and Breiden Relief 'Fat Lava' pottery vases, West Germany, two of compressed tapered form with waisted sides, 4¼in. (10.75cm.) high, one with drip glaze the second with matt sediment finish, the third vase of ribbed, offset cylindrical form, 5½in. (14cm.) high, all with impressed factory marks; plus a West German floral glazed pottery jug of compressed bun form with ribbed neck and double loop handle, 6¼in. (16cm.) high. (4) * Condition: All in good condition, with chips, cracks or restoration.
A George III silver covered sugar vase, Benjamin Stephenson, London 1775, the ovoid vase with twin foliate flying scroll handles, foliate swagged decoration, beaded rim and part fluted knopped pedestal foot, the fluted cover with twisted foliate finial, 6½in. (16.5cm.) high, weight 6.1 tr.oz. * Condition: Marks crisp to underside of foot. Maker's & lion passant mark to cover (both poorly struck). The top section of handles are cast and both are poorly finished with extensive air bubbles in the silver. Small and very faint ding to one side of body. Lip to edge of cover has a small split at joint.
A George III silver coffee pot, Daniel Pontifex, London 1795, of pedestal vase form, with vase finial, wood scroll handle on foliate mount and shaped ovoid foot, 11in. (28cm.) high, gross weight 24.9 tr.oz. * Condition: Clear marks to edge of base. Small ding just below top of body and another small, faint ding to other side of body. Two old soldered repairs to small splits to inside of body.
A 19th century Chinese export hand painted & gilt vase, together with a green glazed celadon teapot, Japanese turquoise glazed bottle vase, Japanese stoneware teapot and bowl. (5) * Condition: Chinese vase has a small base edge chip and hairline to top lip. All other pieces in good condition.
A large, good quality Chinese Canton style baluster vase, early 20th century, printed seal mark to base, flared and waisted neck with floral and foliate scroll decoration over a turquoise ground, the body finely enamelled with Oriental pheasants perched upon a blossoming prunus branch above flowering peonies issuing from rockwork, lappet petal border to base, painted calligraphy to reverse, 16½in. (41.8cm.) high, on carved hardwood stand. (2) * Condition: Star glaze crack to reverse just beneath left side of calligraphy. Does not show to interior. Decoration in very good condition. No other chips, cracks or repairs. Stand separate into two sections due to aging glue - could easily be repaired.
A Chinese interior painted glass snuff bottle, rectangular form, with painted decoration of two wild cats in mountainous terrain, the reverse with squirrels in vines, 4¼ x 2¾in. (10.8 x 7cm.); plus a second example of moon vase form with enamel decoration depicting children at play, 3 x 2½in. (7.6 x 6.4cm.). (2) * Condition: 3mm flake to base of Lynx example, two tiny chips to underside of base, enamel example missing stopper.
A pair of Japanese miniature cloisonné bottle vases, flared long neck with moth and floral decoration, with hardwood linked stands, together with a carved ivory angel fish netsuke, a/f. (3) * Condition: Two bad impact marks and loss of 5mm enamel patch to first vase, 3mm impact to second vase. 12mm piece of ivory missing to dorsal fin of fish.
A Moorcroft vase, post-war, globular baluster body, 'Spring Flowers' pattern, on graduated green ground, blue interior, impressed factory marks and blue painted WM monogram to base, 8in. (20.25cm.) high. * Condition: Good condition. Some crazing to glaze, notably to base. No defects or restoration noted.
A Chinese Ming period blue and white single stem vase, high shouldered baluster form with narrow, short neck, blue scrolling foliate design over white crackle glaze ground, palmette band to base, faux fo dog mask and ring handles to sides, four character mark to base, 4¾in. (12cm.) hig, * Hand written provenance note included with lot, stating that the vase was found on a bonfire at a property in Surabaya, Java, in 1946, previously occupied by Japanese troops. ** Condition: Restored chip to rim. Crackle glaze showing some yellowed discolouration throughout. No other damage noted.
A Chinese miniature Meiping 'Thousand Boys' vase, probably 19th century, ovoid form with an abundance of boys in playful poses on crackle glaze ground, with domed cover (damaged), six character marks to underside, 3¼in. (8.3cm.) high. * Condition: Vase good. Cover broken into several pieces with old glued repair. Complete but chip missing from inside of rim.
An 18th century Chinese Ming style blue and white porcelain specimen vase or water dropper, probably Qianlong period (1736-95), barrel form with concave top with central raised cylindrical neck, decorated with Peony and Chrysanthemum plants within two rectangular reserves with everted corners, within diaper borders, 6¼in. (15.75cm.) high. * Condition: Several wavy glaze cracks to rim - old with brown discoluration due to age. Some glaze crazing to other side of rim. One with tiny glaze frit at edge. Small chip to top of neck/nozzle. Glaze fault to edge of base.
