KINKOZAN; a fine Japanese Meiji period ovoid vase, the front panel decorated with a detailed landscape, the reverse with auspicious items within a framed panel and with detailed gilt decoration to the cobalt blue ground throughout, painted seal mark to base, height 18cm.Provenance: From a private Worcestershire collection.Additional InformationVery minor rubbing to the gilding with just small areas to the foot rim, there is a minute blemish to the foot rim which under the touch feels like a raised small section of gilt, but overall a fine example.

Light rubbing to the gilding on the handles.

KINKOZAN; a good and large Japanese Meiji period Satsuma baluster vase decorated with a procession within a continuous landscape and blossoming branches, signed to base with mon above, height 26cm.Provenance: From a private Worcestershire collection.Additional InformationThere is a 12mm x 6mm sliver chip to the foot rim but this does not prevent the vase standing true, there is some rubbing to the gilding noticeable to the upper rim, very slight staining to the interior of the neck of the vase.

Under UV light, nothing else shows up.

A good and large Japanese Meiji period Satsuma ovoid vase decorated with a continuous procession beneath hanging lanterns, signed to base and with painted Imperial mon to base, height 27cm.Provenance: From a private Worcestershire collection.Additional InformationMinor rubbing to the gilding, there is a little bit of surface dirt which appears to be where a sticker has possibly been in the past. There is light crazing and you might expect and some staining to the inside but overall a good example.

A large Japanese Meiji period Satsuma vase of swollen baluster form decorated with opposing panels of figures in a landscape, signed to base, height 23cm.Provenance: From a private Worcestershire collection.Additional InformationSome rubbing to the gilding especially around the upper rim, there is also a flaw to the gilding around the shoulders, this is the form of a rough bump which measures approx 2mm x 2mm and has been gilded. Otherwise good condition.

A Japanese Meiji period porcelain Satsuma vase decorated with ducks upon a pond, on three scrolling supports, unsigned, height 25cm and a Japanese earthenware Satsuma trumpet vase, height 14.5cm (2).Additional InformationThe porcelain vase is in good condition, with just minor rubbing to the gilding and pit marks to the glaze. The earthenware vase has some craquelure throughout and some quite heavy rubbing to the gilding.

General surface pitting and wear. The second vase also has heavy pitting throughout and artificial age applied to the foot rim. The tulip vase is modern and just has light surface wear.

A Japanese Meiji period Kutani bowl, diameter 24cm (af) and a similarly decorated bottle vase, height of vase 18.5cm (2).Additional InformationThe bowl is cracked to the base and has numerous rim cracks and stress cracks throughout. Also a chip to the rim and heavy crazing throughout. The bottle vase has rubbing to the gilding and a couple of tiny flake losses to the decoration.

A group of cloisonné items to include a twin handled lidded vase of waisted form, height 12cm, a pair of vases of baluster form, height 12cm, etc (8). Additional InformationThe cover is slightly misshapen on the lidded pot, minor knocks, scratches and wear throughout, the overall condition is good with no obvious areas of large loss or damage, complete four associated bases.

Lot 1398

A pair of Japanese Meiji period ivory and Shibayama-style inlaid tusk vases, each mounted on carved wooden bases, the bodies decorated with birds amongst branches, height including bases 19cm (af).Additional InformationUnfortunately, there is rather a lot of the inlaid detail missing, one also has a crack running on the inside of the vase. A couple of tiny further cracks to the bases, the second vase also has a few small cracks running from the base. Both have general surface wear, one is permanently attached to the base.

An early Chinese pale celadon glazed ewer of globular form with small handle and spout and ribbed body, height 16.5cm and a green glazed provincial vase, height 18cm (2).Additional InformationHeavy craquelure to the celadon pot, imperfections to the glaze as you would expect, but otherwise ok. Chips to the rim of the provincial pot, also heavy wear throughout.

A 19th century Chinese Canton Famille Rose enamel decorated vase featuring panelled scene of figures chasing game, alternating with floral sprays featuring butterflies and birds, moulded Ruyi border to shoulders and with one handle, unmarked, height 43.5cm (badly af).Additional InformationObviously extensively damaged with large crack and loss to the neck, as well as one of the handles going into the moulded detail of the shoulder. Further general wear throughout, rubbing to detail, inclusions, imperfections, etc. Some of the pieces do remain with the lot, but we certainly cannot guarantee that all the parts are present and that these will be sufficient to restore the vase.

A Chinese turquoise glazed dragon applied vase, unmarked, height 20.5cm, and a similarly glazed bottle vase, height 25cm (2).Additional InformationThe bottle vase has a large sliver chip to the rim, fritting to the foot rim and general surface wear. The dragon vase also has some fritting to the foot rim and general wear.

A modern Chinese rust glazed and celadon glazed bowl, diameter 12.5cm, a pale blue bowl, signed A. Fung, 80, diameter 10.5cm, a crackle glazed pale celadon bowl, diameter 10.5cm, a small pale celadon glazed bowl, diameter 7.5cm, and a lacquered mother of pearl inlaid small cup, width 5cm (5).Additional InformationSome fritting to the rust decorated bowl and imperfections where the glaze hasn't quite taken. The Fung bowl is cracked and has fritting to the rim. The crackle glazed vase is OK. The small pale celadon bowl has an indistinct mark to the base and is OK. The lacquered small cup has rubbing to the rim.

A large 20th century Chinese porcelain vase decorated in polychrome enamels with peacocks, cranes, swallows and ducks amongst blossoming trees and flowers, calligraphic script to reverse, further floral spays and lappet band to lower section, ruyi and lappet bands with printed red archaic seal mark to base, height 61.3cm.Additional InformationSurface rubbing to decoration, surface dirt, scratches and blemishes including a series of glaze scratches beneath the calligraphic script, further inclusions, manufacturing flaws and imperfections and general surface wear.

A Chinese porcelain baluster vase with exaggerated neck, decorated in underglaze blue with two birds perched on rock and branch amongst blossoming peonies, the shoulder with diapered band featuring further floral detail, the lower section with band of stylised waves, unmarked, height 38.5cm.Additional InformationFiring flaws, glaze inclusions and imperfections, some fritting, some surface pitting, some light general wear.

A large decorative Chinese baluster vase decorated with figures in a landscape, unmarked, height 37cm (af).Additional InformationPitting throughout, it has a hole drilled through the side for a lamp. There is a large crack running through the base, which is into the body of the pot. Stress cracks also running through the side of the pot and surface marks throughout. Restoration to the base and foot rim.

Seven pieces of Chinese blue and white ceramics to include 18th century export ware cream jug painted with temples and landscape scene, length 13cm, three pieces of crackle ware, a pair of blue and white lidded jars, height 27cm and a modern blue and white jar, height 33cm (7).Additional InformationThe large jar has a dish and saucer which have been applied at a later date. The crackle glazed vase has had a large break to the top, which has been crudely glued back. The smaller sleeve vase with old repaired chip to the top rim. The lidded jar with a large old repaired chip, the cover is also af. The pair of smaller lidded vases are both af, with large cracks/old repairs. The cream jug with chipping to the glaze.

A Chinese Late Republic period peacock decorated vase with printed marks to base, height 26.5cm, a Famille Jaune vase decorated with birds (drilled through the mark on base), height 24cm and two further Chinese vases (4).Additional InformationThe first vase is in good order, has a few surface scratches, noticeably one to the side of the tree and general imperfections to the glaze. The Famille Jaune example has a mark to the rim, which is an imperfection, as noted it has been drilled through the foot rim, general surface wear throughout. The colourful Chinese vase which is modern has light rubbing to the transfer decoration and the smaller modern vase which is inscribed 'Made in China' has light imperfections.

A Chinese provincial pale celadon glazed bottle vase decorated with a chilong, height 31cm, a pale cream glazed provincial vase, height 19.5cm, and two unglazed pieces of provincial ceramics.Additional InformationThe Chilong decorated vase has numerous imperfections and staining throughout and some rubbing to the raised parts of the Chilong itself. A couple of small chips to the foot rim. This is certainly 18th century and could even be slightly earlier. The pale cream glazed example has fritting to the rim, imperfections and is quite crudely pottered with quite a heavy surface scratch where there has been a blow to the glaze. The unglazed vase has chips to the foot rim and rubbing to the decoration and the twin handled vessel has general surface wear throughout.

Lot 1503

A Chinese blue and white floral decorated baluster vase with spurious Xuande mark to base, height 22cm and a similarly decorated bottle vase, unmarked, height 17cm (2).Additional InformationBoth these pieces are late 20th century copies. The larger vase has a 2cm hairline crack from the rim and some artificial aging and pitting. The smaller vase again has been artificially aged around the foot rim, with fritting to the upper.

A 19th century Chinese export ovoid vase decorated with exotic birds and butterflies amongst blossoming branches, height 25.5cm (af), also a modern Chinese blue and white globular vase, height 14.5cm (2).Additional InformationThe celadon vase has been restored around the base and has a restored large crack running through the body. The blue and white vase has a bit of fritting to the rim and artificial aging around the foot rim.

Three Chinese 20th century porcelain sang de boeuf glazed vases comprising bulbous example with flared neck, height 25cm and a pair of bulbous vases with cylindrical necks, raised on matched hardwood stands, height 16cm (3).Additional InformationThe larger vase bears stamp which possibly states 'Made in China', numerous chips to the foot rim, staining to the top rim. The smaller vases are with matched stands, crazing is evident throughout, the smaller vases with seal mark to base.

A Chinese Famille Verte rucai porcelain ginger jar painted with stylised birds and floral sprays within auspicious symbols, bearing four character Kangxi mark to base, height 18cm, together with a Chinese crackle glaze twin handled vase decorated with battle scenes, height 29cm, etc (4).Additional InformationGeneral wear throughout, the larger Famille Verte vase is lacking the cover, minor losses to the decoration. Minor staining in parts to the smaller crackle glazed jar.

Six pieces of Chinese blue and white porcelain to include an early 20th century sleeve vase painted with prunus flowers on a blue ground, Kangxi double ring mark to base, height 26cm, a similar plate, diameter 25.5cm, unmarked, etc (6).Additional InformationThe sleeve vase with minor chips to the foot rim, wear. The plate with glaze imperfections, crazing is evident. Light scratches to the bodies, one of the small prunus jars with a sliver chip to the foot rim.

An 18th century Chinese blue and white porcelain tea caddy, painted with figures in landscape scene, one example riding a shishi lion, double ring Kangxi mark to base, height 13cm, together with a late 19th century Chinese blue and white double gourd vase decorated with maidens in landscape setting, double ring Kangxi mark to base, height 24cm, two blue and white porcelain vases, one example decorated with objects inside prunus sprays, height of larger example 14cm (af) (4).Additional InformationThree examples are af, the 18th century tea caddy is heavily af, it has been dropped, with numerous cracks, large chips, old breaks are evident. The double gourd vase has been restored crudely around the top neck. One of the small blue and white pots with hairline crack and old repair to the top. The example with the white background with minimal wear, otherwise good.

A late 19th century Chinese crackle glazed vase decorated with figures upon horseback, height 29cm, a carved wooden figure of Budai on associated wooden stand, height 18cm and a carved soapstone triple figure group (3).Additional InformationThe Chinese vase has been stuck to an associated stand which is upside down to the vase, however the vase itself just has general surface marks. The wooden Budai figure, as stated, is on an associated stand, a couple of natural marks in the wood, but basically ok. A few small chips to the soapstone sections.

A large modern Chinese porcelain baluster lidded jar/vase painted in enamels with a dragon dance (Long Wu) beneath Ruyi band, the lower section with butterflies and floral sprays, the lid with children carrying lanterns and fireworks, unmarked, height approx. 70cm.Additional InformationGeneral surface wear, some rubbing to decoration, pitting, glaze inclusions, manufacturing imperfections, dust and dirt etc.

Two 19th century Chinese Canton Famille Rose porcelain vases, the first with relief moulded handles and shoulder about painted decoration of figures in landscape and interior scenes, bears signature, height 35cm, the second decorated with insects and floral sprays with moulded shoulder, height 35.5cm (2).  Additional InformationEach vase is af, the example which bears signature with large losses and chips, numerous glaze chips, the second vase with an extensive crack, chips to body, also a hole to the body.

An early 20th century Chinese Famille Verte twin handed floor vase decorated with stylised birds and prunus flowers, indistinct red character mark to base, height 56.5cm, raised on wooden stand, together with two modern Chinese Wucai lidded jars, decorated with three-claw dragons, raised on matched wooden plinth bases, overall height 45cm (3).Additional InformationOne of the lidded jars with cover af, with a large piece which has been broken out and reglued. Wear to the gilding, each of the stands is worn with knocks and old repairs.

Three 18th century Chinese Famille Rose porcelain plates including an example painted with objects of virtue inside panels and floral sprays, an example painted with stylised figures in landscape setting etc, one of the plates bears a Sotheby's country house sale lot number, diameter of largest plate 24cm.(3).Additional InformationThe example decorated with figures has tight hairline crack, chipping to rim, also has label verso dated 1925, the white example with floral sprays has very tight hairline crack with numerous chips to the underside. The vase painted with objects of virtue with a u-shaped piece which has been broken out and crudely glued. General wear throughout.

A late 19th century Chinese blue and white painted vase decorated with two five clawed dragons amongst clouds chasing the Pearl of Wisdom, with painted four character mark to base, height 26.5cm.Additional InformationA little bit of fritting to the rim, some staining, some fritting to the foot rim and a very small slither chip to the foot rim and a further small chip further along the foot rim. General pitting to the surface of the vase as you might expect.
