The Boch Freres Keramis factory was founded in 1841 in La Louviere, Hainault (St. Vaast), in Belgium. Led by the two brothers, Eugen (1809-1898) and Frederic Victor Boch (1817-1920) and their brother-in-law Jean-Baptiste Nothomb (1805-1881), the company won various honours in international exhibitions from the mid 1840s for their imitations of Delft, Rouen and even Sevres wares. This exuberant example of naturalism is more original. Heavily modelled reliefs haven been assembled on a body in which coloured clays have been rolled together to achieve an 'agate-ware' effect. The firm sold the best silverware and the most exclusive jewels, gaining almost instantaneously a desirable reputation amongst the Parisian elites. In just 3 years RISLER & CARRÉ assert themselves in the luxury market, being awarded a gold medal in the 1900 World Exhibition in Paris, followed by many other awards, including at the Universal Exhibition in Saint Louis (USA) in 1904, in which only six French silversmiths had the honour of exhibiting, a fact that brough immediate international fame to the company.RISLER & CARRÉ produced splendid pieces in the Louis XVI style, but also in the fashionable and more modern Art Nouveau style, André RISLER being responsible for designing most of the pieces produced.
