Lot 1050

A Chinese famille rose porcelain vase, probably Daoguang Period (1820-50 ) The baluster form , rising from a splayed base, and terminating at a dish-mouth rim, the neck adorned with relief moulded and pierced chilong, the exterior sides with two fan shaped cartouche flanked by a series of chilong and surmounted by an iron-red dragon, filled with depictions of the seven immortals each with their symbolic attribute before the crashing waves of the Bohai sea, and immortals and attendants before watery pavilion landscapes, each reserved against a vibrant turquoise ground finely enamelled with large lotus flowerheads borne on leafy tendrils, the foot and upper rim with underglazed blue ruyi-head bands and auspicous fruits reserved against a lemon yellow ground, 80cm high. NB: The vase has been with the same private estate since the early 20th Century and was originally one of a pair, with the current vendor recalling a family member breaking several years ago. CONDITION REPORT: Extensive damage to the upper rim, with several noticeable cracks to the upper rim. Several appear to have been infilled and remodelled back together, crack lines show small gaps / losses. (Please refer to images.) Large chip to the upper rim, approx 5cm x 1cm. (Please refer to image.) The underside of the foot rim and lower body of the vase shows two hairline cracks running vertically upwards, each approx 10cm in length. Small areas of over paint visible to the exterior enamel. This vase shows extensive damage, viewing of further images is highly recommended.

A Chinese Longquan type celadon vase, 19th/20th Century The hexagonal form bottle vase, rising from a high pedestal footring and terminating at a folded upper rim, the exterior sides carved and moulded with traditional scroll and lotus flowerhead designs, with allover pale green glaze, Qianlong seal mark to the base, 27cm high. CONDITION REPORT: Very light scratches to glaze (difficult to see), but good condition.

A Chinese famille verte square section vase, late Qing Dynasty (1644-1912) The baluster square section vase, rising from a low square footring and extending to sloping side and terminating at an everted square upper rim, the exterior shoulder flanked by twin elephant mask handles, decorated in green, yellow and blue enamels and reserved against a pale white/celadon ground, depicting officials receiving subordinates, and immortal amidst rocky landscapes, 36cm high CONDITION REPORT: Minor chipping to glaze throughout top rim and edges of body. Extensive loss to the glaze at the vertical edges of the vase. Small glaze chips visible to the horizontal edges of the vase. Several small glaze nibbles to the upper rim of the vase. Small glaze chips visible to the elephant handles. Several small glaze chips/ nibbles to the lower square foot rim of the vase. Scuffing and wear to foot rim.

A Chinese porcelain Gu vase, Wanli Six character mark (1573-1620), 19th Century The cylindrical body swelling at the centre and extending to a flared rim, boldy and brightly enamelled to the exterior sides with rockwork issuing lingzhi mushrooms, peacock and four clawed-dragons in pursuit of the flaming pearl, set within rows and bands of stiff lappet panels, traditional scroll and Buddhist endless knot designs, the vibrant red and green enamels, reserved against a yellow ground, picked out with underglazed blue, 60cm high. A Japanese satsuma square pedestal vase, possibly Gyokuzan, Meiji Period (1868-1912) The square base, extending to a tapered and stepped base, and rising to a swept neck and terminating at an everted square rim, the ivory crackle glazed with gilt stippled ground before a series of depictions of children's riding crane in flight, further detailed with butterflies and chrysanthemum, 27cm high, indistinct signature to the base.

A continental gilt pedestal vase, late 19th/early 20th Century Rising from a black square section base, to a splayed base supporting an ovoid form vase, flanked by twin scroll and mask handles, the burnished gilt concentric and star cross design, before twin vignettes filled with scenes of Italian Landscapes, terminating at an everted upper rim, unmarked, 38cm high.

A Doulton Burslem Luscian Ware pedestal vase, painted by Edward Raby, Circa 1910 The gilt square section base, supporting a lobed footrim, the short stem rising to a rounded ovoid body, with gilt shoulder and ivory everted rim, adorned with twin loop satyr mask handles, the body painted in blue tones depicting poppies, picked out with gilt highlights, green printed factory marks, 34cm high. CONDITION REPORT: lot 1198 - Finial completely restored, remodelled and re-gilded restored chip to the inner lip of the cover, approx 1x1cm. Also, extensive rubbing to the gilt at the inner area, unnoticeable when cover on top of vase. Replacement screw to the base of the vase, a new screw has been fitted to join the stem and body of the vase together, this does not attract from the appearance of the vase, however it may have slightly been over tightened and therefore caused the base to issue two hairline cracks, each approx 3cm in length. Very small chip to the plinth base at the corner, approx 0.3cms in size.

A Doulton Burslem Luscian Ware vase, painted by Edward Raby, Circa 1910 Of Rounded globular form, with indented pinched shoulder, picked out with gilt paste stippled and floral scroll designs, flanked by twin loop handles, the exterior sides painted with continuous depiction of an arcadian landscape with poppies, 18cm high, green printed factory marks. CONDITION REPORT: Lot 1199 - Minor rubbing to the gilt at the handles, minor scratching to the body, it is a possibility that the vibrant blue inset panels have been overpainted. This colour palatal does not appear to fit with the overall colour of the vase, however, this does not detract from the condition or overall view of the vase.

A Royal Worcester Islamic inspired ivory glazed vase, dated 1888 The bulbous tapered vase, rising from four scalloped and tapered foliate supports, rising to a relief moulded neck adornment with chrysanthemum and lotus designs, the knopped stem rising to a reticulated trellis work flared rim and flanked by twin solid gilt loop handles, painted in gilt to the exterior sides with lotus depictions, 34cm high, puce printed factory marks. CONDITION REPORT: Rubbing to gilt at the rim. Scratching and wear to the gilt at the handles. Minor scratching to the ivory body. Wear and loss to the gilt at the supports. Scuffing and wear to the underside of the supports. No visible signs of structural damage or restoration.

A Royal Worcester blush ivory pedestal vase, dated 1898 Rising from a stepped spreading circular base, to an ovoid body flanked by twin arched loop handles, and terminating at a flared rim surmounted by a domed cover with flowerbud finial, painted to either side with depictions of thistles and winter foliage, reserved against a blush ivory ground picked out in green and gilt, puce printed factory mark and shape number 1481, 31cm high. CONDITION REPORT: Completely restored and overpainted lower section of the cover and exteneded outer rim. Rubbing to the gilt at the very tip of the finial. Scuffing and scratching to the gilt at the upper rim. Small hairline crack approx 1cm in length to one of the handles. Minor scratching to the paintwork.

A Royal Worcester James Hadley vase, dated 1905 The tapered ovoid form vase, with Islamic inspired shoulder designs and arched twin loop green glazed handles, painted to the exterior sides with pink roses, 26cm high, initialled to base, together with a Royal Worcester ivory glazed jug, dated 1892, the lobed bulbous jug extending to dished shell rim and applied with gilt naturalistic handles, 22cm high, puce printed factory mark and shape number 1507. A fine Royal Worcester vase, by Charles Baldwyn, dated 1903 The ovoid form vase, rising from a stepped spreading circular low pedestal base, and flanked by twin high loop handles with animal mask terminals, the typical pale blue ground finely painted with four swans in flight, before bullrushes, signed, 15.5cm high, puce printed factory mark and number 1399. CONDITION REPORT: The vase is broken and non professionally restored at the neck. The area directly below the knopped section has been broken, the break line and glue residue is visible on close inspection. Overall surface dirt. The verso of the vase shows three small white paint smudges. Small fingernail chip to the underside of the overhanging upper rim. Rubbing to the gilt at the upper rim. Minor scratching to the blue ground throughout.

A Royal Worcester fruit painted vase, by Albert Shuck, dated 1937 Of bottle form, rising from a low footring, and terminating at a gilt flared rim, painted to the exterior sides with apples, grapes, and raspberries, signed, 14cm high, puce printed factory marks, shape number C702. CONDITION REPORT: Restoration to upper neck / rim of the vase. The gilt area appears to have been completely re-gilded, and in the areas which have been restored also. It is likely that the vase has been re-gilded at the foot rim also, as this gilding looks thick in appearance.

A Victorian burr walnut credenza The break front top above an inlaid frieze and a single cupboard door inlaid with a central pendant and geometric stringing, flanked by two convex glazed cupboard doors, overall with gilt metal embellishments raised on a plinth base and vase shaped feet, 152 x 107 x 40cm CONDITION REPORT: Split/ gap in back boards left hand side. Minor loss of veneer on rim of top. Some gilt metal work missing around right hand cabinet door and left hand cabinet door. More than half missing on both doors. Damage to velvet lining on interior. Replaced lock on centre cabinet door. Crack to left hand side cabinet door approx 12 inches long. Rear foot replaced. Minor wear to top.

Tallboy measurements 92 x 119 x 54cm, the dressing table measurements 122 x 158 (with the mirror) x 56cm.
