Auguste Jean (French, 1829-1896), Aesthetic movement faience vase painted with polychrome decoration of a leaping leopard and birds amongst foliage and vines, on a yellow ground, blue foot, circa 1860s, signed to base, h32cmAuguste Jean was trained in the workshop of Joseph (Guiseppe) Devers before opening his own workshops in ceramics. He later moved into working on enamels on glassware, and produced pieces for the major exhibitions of the era.Condition Report: Overall condition good. No chips, cracks or restoration found. Two 7mm patches of wear to the glaze on the rim. Underglaze imperfections in the form of diagonal grey lines from the top left of the central green leaf, only noticeable upon close inspection.
