A 19th century Chinese porcelain bottle vase hand decorated in underglaze blue with two figures in a boat fishing below flying birds and storks to the foreground (broken, reparations, damage and star crack etc.), four-character mark to underside of base; together with one other larger Chinese baluster-shaped porcelain vase-and-cover in Kangxi style, again typically decorated with various objects within two quatrefoil-shaped reserves against a cracked ice and prunus ground in typical style, four-character mark to underside, the vase-and-cover 30cm (2) CONDITION REPORT: The smaller bottle vase without the lid and the lot number on is damaged at the top, several pieces are away and been re-affixed with several chips away from the lip. There is also a 2/3cm star crack to the main bulbous body. The circular foot looks ok and is signed with a four character mark. The larger vase with cover has been extensively broken and re-glued. There is also a 2cm piece away from the neck and re-glued, also some fritting to the edge of the circular foot. The vase has sustained a fair amount of damage and in our view has been repaired quite badly. The circular cover appears in reasonable condition with no chips, breaks or old restorations and the Karashishi finial looks as if it has always been on there and not repaired.
Clermont Fine China (20th century), a large baluster-shaped vase and cover; hand-decorated with a still life of fruits between two gilded acanthus 'handles', printed marks to underside and signed J.F. Smith (6 firings), 40cm high CONDITION REPORT: The dome topped cover - being absolutely super critical there is some very minor fritting to the edge of the recessed lip which cannot be seen when the cover is on the vase. Also on the inside of the lip is a barely discernible (only visible with a jeweller's loop) very thin 1cm hairline again which is very small. The main vase itself appears to be in good general overall condition with no hairlines, chips, cracks or restoration noted.
A 19th century gilt-bronze vase (now as a table lamp); circular neck flanked by two mythical beasts and strapwork in early style to the edges, each side with a central boss in relief surrounded by concentric circles with very fine engraving, raised on oval foot with piercing and French-style scrolls
A mixed Oriental group to include a cloisonné ink stand with two interior ceramic inkwells , a cloisonné and gilt metal candle stand and an early 20th century Japanese ceramic ovoid pottery vase, the candle stand 14cm in diameter (3) CONDITION REPORT: The inkwell is damaged, the dome topped cover is away from the main body and one of the circular ceramic inkwells has a chip. The ceramic vase has a star crack to the underside and small hairlines emanating from the lip at the top. The candlestick/candle stand has discolouration and staining although the cloisonné enamel appears to be in good general overall order.
A large pair of tin-glazed earthenware ceramic vases and covers of faceted baluster form, each hand-decorated with flowers and leaves etc., (modern), 58cm high (2) CONDITION REPORT: One of the vase has a very small match head sized chip to the inside of the lip of the cover. Both appear quite dusty, dirty and in need of a good clean. One of the vases has a “firing” fault to the underside in respect that the white glaze underneath the foot has a bowed vertical line through it but this is not an imperfection in terms of damage to the actual pottery itself. If our opinion the vases are of 20th Century manufacture and as such still appear in good honest original condition. On the very top of one of the vase finials a match head sized piece of blue glaze is away but in our opinion this could be rectified with a minimum of effort.
A late-19th/early-20th century Chinese porcelain vase hand-decorated in enamels with butterflies, peaches etc. against a yellow ground (severe damage and cracking etc.,) together with a Chinese bottle vase as a lamp, the decorated vase 19cm high (2) CONDITION REPORT: The single smaller vase has been very badly broken and repaired, the piece is hairlined and appears to be in very bad condition with cracks pretty much all over the vase and an old repair to the lip. The yellow bottle vase with the lot number on has several small marks, the yellow appears to be a mottled colour. It looks in reasonable condition with no cracks, chips or old restoration noted. It has now been mounted as a lamp so we can't see inside.
A pair of late-19th century Dresden-style porcelain bottle vases; each hand-decorated in typical style with lovers in 18th century dress within country surroundings and floral sprays against gilding dividing the decorative reserves, blue painted AR mark to underside, 23cm high CONDITION REPORT: The gilding is starting to rub around the lip of the rim. There are scratches to some of the gilding on the large vignettes. The enamel decoration of figures within countryside surroundings looks fairly good although there is an area of degrading to the lower left hand side. The vase looks in good order generally with no overall problems, no chips, cracks, hairlines or restoration noted. The companion vase is similarly so with gild rubbing around the top of the vas. Vertical gilt rubbing is prevalent to one of the reserves with the floral spray. Otherwise the vase appear to be in good overall original condition with no damage noted.
A pair of heavy Chinese stoneware vases of baluster form; each with flaring tapering neck above an ovoid body and slightly spreading circular foot, each with a thick vitreous Langyao sang-de-boeuf style glaze; possibly 18th century, each approx. 30cm high, (both vases with damage, one rim with chips away to the edge, the other vase with smaller ground down rim and also with chips, old reparations etc.) (2) CONDITION REPORT: Sorry we are not sure of the age but in our opinion if the vases aren't 18th Century they are certainly 19th Century.
A pair of early 20th century Japanese Meiji period opposing cloisonné vases, each decorated with five open-winged birds in flight against dark green ground, 19cm high (some damage) CONDITION REPORT: The vases are not perfect, the left hand vase (without the lot number attached) has a 1.5cm long piece of damage - the enamel is away and it is cracked this is about 2cm away from the lip of the right hand bird flying upwards. There are also other bits of enamel away from the lower left hand bird near the wing tips and other small general bruises and pieces of enamel away. The other vase also has small bruises and discolouration to the reverse and also has some enamelling away under the top lip.
