Large Belgian Art Nouveau pottery vase, 44cm high, together with a continental centrepiece, in the form of two nude female figures holding a seaweed bowl, with four smaller shell-shaped bowls around the base, 46cm across. Provenance: By descent from Douglas Shepherd (1922-1989), a designer and architect working on public houses for the brewery firm Ind Coope. He was heavily influenced by and was a serious collector of Arts and Crafts and Art Nouveau, including leading designers and artists such as Charles Ashlee and Jessie M King. He assembled a large collection from the 1950s to 1970s. His book collection was subsequently sold through Sotherby’s and in 2013 his magnificent silver collection by Archibald Knox and others was sold through these rooms.
A Barum Barnstaple Art Nouveau three handled pottery vase with floral decoration, incised mark to base, 15cm high. Four pieces of art glass, including a Mdina goblet, dated 1981, Stromberg fish vase, a Czech vase and one other piece (4)Large amber coloured vase has a couple of minor nicks to the foot rim, fish vase has a couple of minor nicks and some scratching to base. Overall age related wear to the other two vases.
Austrian Turn Vienna porcelain Art Nouveau vase of baluster form with gilt tube lined and polychrome enamelled floral decoration on a cream ground, pattern no. 5644/2524, with transfer mark for Ernst Wahliss, c.1909, 22cm high; also a Doulton Lambeth Silicon Ware "Black Jack" type beaker, the stitched leather effect ground with moulded copper glazed banding and silver mounted rim, impressed no. 2042, 13cm high. (2).Condition report:Turn - very slight discolouration to base but no visible cracks or chips. Gilt rim slightly rubbed. Has held water.Doulton - 2" haircrack from rim, but no visible chips.
Two Royal Copenhagen vases, one decorated with a swallow and irises, pattern no. 2676/271, 11.5cm high, the other decorated with white sweet peas, pattern no. 2668/2037, 15cm high; Victorian cottage pastel burner and another, spill vase in the form of a castle, 9.5cm and 11cm high; Staffordshire spill vase, 12.5cm high; miniature Doyal Doulton figure "Chloe", M29, 7.5cm high; another miniature Continental porcelain figure of a lady and a Continental circular salt with onion flower decoration. Large Dartington Pottery Janice Tchalenko studio pottery vase of ovoid form decorated with stylised red tulips, impressed potter's mark, 29cm high; also a small vase or beaker of flared form with square rim, with stylised blue and green floral decoration, impressed potter's mark, 9.5cm high. (2).
Royal Doulton Chang vase by Charles Noke (1858-1941) and Harry Nixon (1886-1955), the baluster vase with ribbed neck, typical polychrome volcanic glaze over a flambe ground, signed with painted and printed marks and indistinct impressed shape number, 22cm high. Condition report:Large haircrack (at least 4") and possibly more cracks visible, open crazing. Does not ring when tapped, possibly porous.
Antique blown glass decanter of Venetian style in the manner of Christopher Dresser, the wreathen twist squat globe and shaft body with twin turquoise scroll handles with applied borders and raspberry prunts. Snapped pontil, with matched stopper, 29cm high; also a Rosenthal lead crystal vase of flared form, 25cm high. (2).
Late 19th/early 20th century Chinese black stoneware squat circular vase with applied pewter decoration of scrolling dragons and vases of flowers, impressed mark Shanghai, China, 9cm high; a cylindrical brush pot with calligraphic inscription, painted seals and painted four character Zhuanshu Qianlong mark to base, 11cm high and two other vases. (4). Updated Condition Report:Brush Pot - No visible chips. Faint traces of gilding to rim. Glaze impurities. Two very fine slightly discoloured scratches to body. Four very small firing cracks to rim of base. Another very fine crack to the edge of the foot rim, could be a firing crack but possibly a hairline crack. As images.Black pot - Oxidisation and some wear to rim. Some small knocks to foot rim. Stoneware body ok.Imari :- Firing crack to base. No cover glaze defects to interior.Small pot - V discoloured crazing. Porous. small chip to base.
Antique Oriental porcelain vase, probably Korean, of baluster form decorated with phoenix amongst flowers in iron red, green and blue, marked, 14cm high, with pierced hardwood cover and stand, 17.5cm high overall; also a Chinese Canton famille rose celadon ground plate decorate with fruit, flowers and butterflies, underglaze blue Zhuanshu mark, 20cm diam.Condition report:Plate - Minor scratches to green glaze and wear to painted scenes. Lidded vase - Hairline crack and chip to rim. Glaze impurities throughout entire piece, with largest measuring 1.5cm long. colours sharp.
Large Japanese Meiji period circular charger, the central panel of a vase of flowers and six radiating panels of flowers and trees, 40cm diam. and another similar smaller charger with lobed rim, 32cm diam. (2).Condition report:Both good condition. slight wear/scratches. Consistent with age.
Japanese Meiji period Imari bowl of circular fluted form with circular panel of a vase of flowers surrounded by radiating panels of flowers and scrolling foliage, with similar decoration to exterior, underglaze blue ring to base, 24cm diam. and another smaller, 21cm diam. (2).
