A pair of Victorian Staffordshire leaping gazelle spill holders. Height 11 ins (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: These are both in generally good condition. The colours are bright and there is little paint loss. The gilt line around each rim is rubbed. The left hand vase has a small surface edge chip to the rear approximately 1/2 cm square. This is a minor chip.
A pair of Japanese Cloisonne vases, decorated with birds and flowers to blue ground. Height 7.5 ins. CONDITION REPORT: One vase is in good order with no damage, repair or restoration. The second vase has been dropped and there is an indentation on the upper brass rim and a small enamel loss approximately 1 cm in length and 2 mm deep below the impact point. There is also some missing enamel on the blue interior underside corresponding edge. The same vase also has another area of impact damage presumably caused by the same drop. There is an enamel loss below one of the birds and a circular hairline crack.
A small Japanese enamelled vase, orange, bearing character marks to base. Height 4 ins. CONDITION REPORT: We have had a good look at this vase with a magnifying glass and cannot see any damage to the main body of the vase. The top metal lip to the vase has a small dent and where this lip folds round on to the top of the neck there appear to be some small losses. This is right underneath the rim and difficult to see.
A pair of Chinese Famille Verte vases, decorated with flowers and storks, each with character mark to base and raised on a redwood stand. Height including stand 29 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: One vase has a very small under edge chip to the bottom rim. The same vase has a similar small chip to the top inside edge of the rim. The second vase is in good order with no damage at all.
A Chinese Cinnabar lacquer vase, black and red and raised on integral wooden stand. Height 14 ins. CONDITION REPORT: The vase appears to be in generally very good condition with no significant damage or losses to the relief moulding or lacquer. We cannot see any evidence of any repairs or restoration. There is slight bruising to some of the red lacquer but this in minimal. The blue interior of the vase has some very minor losses where the brass lip meets the blue lacquer. These are tiny. The wooden base is in generally good condition. The interior of the vase appears to be enamel over copper. The wooden stand appears to be an integral part of the vase and is not drilled.
Two Japanese Cloisonne vases. Heights 7.5 ins and 8 ins. CONDITION REPORT: The darker of the two vases appears on first inspection to be in good order. However looking closely with a magnifying glass the piece is slightly flat on one side and has clearly been dropped. There are three very faint hairline cracks running vertically from the beak of the bird up in to the beige body of the vase for approximately 5 cm. It is difficult to see these without the aid of a magnifying glass. The blue vase has a small chip and enamel loss approximately 3mm square. This is on the proud section of the shoulder. The foot rim is also dented and there is a corresponding fracture of the enamel on the underside of the base and less so on the upper decorated section of the vase.
A late 18th century Continental glass vase or goblet with cover, faceted and with red and gold twist stem. Height 10.5 ins (see illustration). The inner rim on the base has a number of small chips, the largest being approximately 2 mm x 3 mm.
A late 18th century Continental vase or goblet with cover, the knop and stem with red twist work and the body etched. Height 9.5 ins (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The top of the finial is chipped. The bottom is in good order but where the top joins the stem the area is quite rough. The pontil mark is sharp to the base.
A garniture of five 19th century Chinese blue and white vases, three lidded and two with flared rims, each with four character mark to base. Height 10.5 ins (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: One of the two vases without the lids is in perfect condition. The second vase has two very small glaze chips to the top rim. These are really very minor. The three lidded vases are in generally good condition with only very minor problems. All three bases have one very small top rim glaze chip. One lid has three under edge lip chips, one of which is quite large but they are on the underside edge of the top, the other two lids both have very small edge glaze chips but no significant damage.
A 19th century Staffordshire zebra spill vase, pair of sheep spill vases and recumbent sheep (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The zebra group is generally discoloured and crazed. There is old restoration to the loop handle, the top of the figures hat and around the neck also. The old repairs have discoloured. The right hand spill vase is in generally good condition with no significant damage, repairs or restoration. The left hand vase has been broken across the base and 75% of the base itself is missing. Both front legs have had overpainting. The recumbent sheep is in good overall condition but is crazed as can be seen from the image.
