Date mark of 1922, maker's mark, and style number 1889 impressed along the underside.One pentagonal vase with a glossy blue glaze depicting ravens along each of the five sides. Date mark of 1924, maker's mark, and style number 1795 along the underside.Provenance: Property from the distinguished collection of Mr. James Lee Soffer, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.Height ranges from 2 in to 6 3/4 in; diameter ranges from 2 3/4 in to 4 1/4 in. />Condition: The vases are in generally good condition with no chips, losses, or restorations. Light wear throughout including along the footrims as expected from age and use. There are two very small hairline cracks along the upper rim of the brown vase. Some light crazing to the glazes.

The surface is stable, and the color is bold and bright. No visible sign of restoration under UV light. To the upper right quadrant, there is a spiral crack.

Framed; height: 15 1/2 in x width: 13 1/2 in. />Condition: The colors are bold and bright. There is undulation to the surface and the canvas is slightly loose. The surface has some areas of instability throughout. Craquelure throughout. There is a small loss near the lower center below the vase's footrim. Wear to the extreme edges. Wear to the verso and stretcher. Some accretions to the verso that do not affect the recto. Wear and some small losses to the frame.

Framed; height: 25 1/2 in x width: 17 1/2 in. />Condition: The colors are bold and bright. The surface is stable. There are several areas of inpainting throughout the artwork, visible under UV light. Most notable in the following areas: both of the white calla lilies and the right margin. There are numerous other areas of inpainting throughout. There are stretcher bar marks throughout all four side. Along the verso, there are six noticeable patches corresponding to areas of inpainting on the recto. There is wear to the extreme edges of the canvas along the verso. All but one stretcher key is missing. Wear to the frame.

Paris, Dihl et Guerhard, vase à décor de portrait, circa 1800-1810A Paris, Dihl et Guerhard signed portrait vase, circa 1800-1810Superbly decorated with an oval portrait medallion of a young man wearing the order of the Légion d'honneur, pinned to the left lapel of his military jacket, wearing gold thread epaulettes, the reverse with the initials AI in gilt letters against a pale blue ground, the vase itself decorated with a high-finished gilding with tooled cartouches around the medallions flanked by two stylised architectural elements, the foot and neck with similar highly worked and tooled gilding, 24.3cm high, 'Dihl' in tooled script to the side of the square baseFootnotes:Christophe Erasmus Dihl was born in 1768 near Mannheim, and was trained already as a young man in chemistry. He understood the chemical processes necessary for the manufacture of porcelain, had access to moulds, and decided to found his business in buoyant Paris. He emigrated in 1778, but as a non-Parisian, he was not allowed to set up his own factory and joined forces with a couple already based in Paris called Guérhard. After Mons. Guérhard's death, Dihl married his widow, and continued the business. The factory became one of the most famous and successful factories in Paris,in some cases even outshining the Sèvres factory in output and orders. Very few withstood the elements. This was not an uncommon use of earthenware and faience, and in fact Delftware was also integrated in the gardens of the Royal Palace of Het Loo as published by S.
