Ridel à Paris, a fine ormolu Empire mantel mantel clock: the eight-day duration movement striking the hours and half-hours on a bell with an outside countwheel, the white enamel dial with Breguet style black Roman numerals, gilded-brass hands of sunburst design and signed Ridel à Paris, the ormolu case with floral decoration spilling from the vase surmounting the case, the painted oval plaque possibly depicting Maria Theresa of Spain wife of the Sun-King Louis XIV which would conform to the sunburst decoration to the hands, height 55cms.* Biography Ridel is recorded as working in Paris as a maker of pendule marbre blanc et bronze from circa 1800 with workshops at Rue aux Ours in the revolutionary portion of Amis-de-la-Patrie in the 6th arrondissement, renamed Porte-Saint-Denise in 1811. There are a number of clocks known signed by him, all of the Empire style with fine dials and hands.
