A HAUTIN & BOULANGER CHOISY LE ROI MAJOLICA MODEL OF A COCKEREL AFTER PAUL COMOLERA the rooster strutting before a vase in the form of wheat with flowers, impressed signature and 1281, printed mark, 68cm h, c1875 In their book Majolica a Complete History and Illustrated Survey (New York, 2002)Marilyn G Karmason and Joan B Stacke observe that Choisy Majolica is remarkably delicate and compares favourably with that of Minton and Wedgwood. They illustrate another example of the present model with its companion hen, on p176. ++Long in the present local private vendor`s possession to whom it was given by a family who probably owned it since the 19th c. The model is in wholly unrestored condition with the following damage: head broken off and restuck, one piece of the cockerel`s comb chipped, some of the tail feather`s chipped, the top of the vase chipped in several places, the cockerel`s spur`s slightly chipped, minor flat surface chip on front edge of base, no restoration other than one or two small restuck pieces for the purposes of the present sale on the top of the vase
