§ John Lancaster (British, 1913-1984) Still life of lilies, roses and peonies in a glass bowl on a stone ledge with a snail signed lower right 'John Lancaster 1967' oil on board 60 x 50cm (23 x 20in) Other Notes: Born in 1913 in India, John Lancaster was educated at Marlborough College and had a distinguished career during World War II with the RAF. He established himself as a painter in 1947, exhibiting at the Royal Academy. He lived at Aspenden, Hertfordshire, and died in 1984. Oil on board. Overall the support and paint layers are in a good condition. There are a few minor losses at the bottom of the vase. Mould has developed on the revers of the board which has started to form on the surface. The varnish is glossy, clear and even. There are a few losses to the gilded surface of the frame.
A Japanese bronzed two-handled vase, inlaid with vine leaf and bird design, 8 1/2" high, said to have belonged to Sir John Rumney Nicholson Condition:Small scratches to lower section of the vase with some oxidation to the lacquer on the lower section. The top rim has a minor ding, some minor fading to the lacquer on the foliage due to overcleaning
