First held in 1903 and now one of the biggest annual sport events in the world, the 1954 Tour de France was the 41st multi-stage cycling event race, held from 8 July to 1 August 1954; the bike race consisted of 23 stages over 4,656km; the race was won by the professional cyclist Louison Bobet (Louis "Louison" Bobet; 1925-1983), the second of his three consecutive wins. Great design featuring a detailed route map of the main routes of associated companies around the world in the centre and a man in traditional Pacific Island dress standing on a canoe boat in front of palm trees between the text below, the black and white images set within a green border with the USSCo Union Jack flag inside a rope circle logo above and the PO House London address below. Union Line was incorporated in 1875 in Dunedin New Zealand; by 1914 the company was the biggest shipping line in the southern hemisphere and New Zealand's largest private-sector employer; in 1917 it was bought by the British shipping company P O.
