PACKET of Royalty ephemera from the collection of Ken Wheal, former Grenadier Guardsman who was seconded as an orderly at Clarence Hosue to work for the Royal Household from 1951-1955, during this part as part of the proposed 1952 Royal Commonwealth tour to Ceylon and the Southern Hemisphere, setting sail on the SS Gothic from Tilbury to Mombasa, Kenya in January 1952 but being flown back from Kenya after the cancellation of the tour due to the passing of King George VI, the collection including a large folding coloured map, ROYAL TOUR OF AUSTRALIA AND NEW ZEALAND 1952, approx size 70 x 102cm, original printed covers, given to Mr Wheal for the journey plus souvenir postcard by Valentines of the proposed Royal Cruise, real photographic card depicting SS Gothic with oval portraits of HRH Princess Elizabeth and HRH The Duke of Edinburgh plus real photographic postcard of SS Gothic sent by Ken Wheal, Tuesday January 15th 1952 en route to Las Palmas, Tenerife on SS Gothic + duplicate postcard (no message, creased) + printed passenger list SHAW SAVILL LINE PASSENGER LIST SS GOTHIC ... A similar diorama, again depicting a WW1 battle scene. Entitled Over The Top, by Lee Wares. Featuring two corners of a British trench, with a number of soldiers examining a map and taking orders from an Officer. A similar number of soldiers have gone over the top and are advancing with a second Officer. Also featured are a large field gun with team, a massive tank and a British bi-plane passing overhead. The trench is detailed with substantial platforming, ladders and cryptic notices such as ‘suicide corner’. Piles of ammunition and tools abound. Measures overall 45cm x 40cm. GC-VGC.
