(c.1760). *** Apparently scarce with only one record found at auction a second state issued by John Bowles c.1770 sold at Bonhams in 2001.

His training for the bar at the Inner Temple in London was cut short by the War of Independence. He was the representative for Georgia at the Continental Congress from 1783 to 1786 and in 1787 was their delegate at the Constitutional Convention. He was a founding trustee of the University of Georgia Athens.
