Holland (Henry). Travels in the Ionian Isles, Albania, Thessaly, Macedonia, Etc. During the Years 1812 and 1813, 1st ed., 1815,. eng. map, twelve eng. plts. after drawings by the author, some light toning and scattered spotting, later white calf gilt, a little rubbed, 4to Blackmer 825. Aterby 589. Holland undertook these travels immediately after acquiring his M.D. from Edinburgh University. A few years later he set up a fashionable practice in London and was so successful that by his early thirties, "... he resolved not to let his professional income exceed £5,000 and to spend all his leisure in study, recreation and travel". He married twice, had seven children, made frequent foreign tours right into his later years, and finally died in his bed at home in London on his eighty fifth birthday. (1)
