An album of prints and drawings inscribed on the front pastedown to Miss Martin from Dr and Mrs Lee of Hartwell House 1854 including 2 engraved views of the house 3 etchings with aquatint of antiquities by John Martin and J.C. Stadler 3 etchings by J. Crofton Croker inscribed by the printmaker and a mixed group of drawings and watercolours by various hands including some by members of the de Cosson family landscapes figure studies portraits and caricatures also a manuscript map of Egypt some mounted on album leaves most loosely inserted half-morocco over cloth boards worn gilt-lettered and tooled morocco label Miss Martin on upper board upper joint broken folio. *** Provenance: From the collection of Joseph Bonomi Jnr. (1796-1878) and thence by descent to the present owner. The eminent astronomer Dr John Lee inherited Hartwell House in 1827 and the Royal Meteorological Society was founded in his library there in 1850. This was also the year that the famous Egyptologist and architect Joseph Bonomi Jnr undertook the commission to construct a folly in the garden of Hartwell the Egyptian Spring. Bonomi had earlier married Jessie Martin daughter of the visionary artist John Martin.
