The label attached to one of the boards describes him as being from the Byam family of Antigua and claims the map was taken from a French officer during the same battle.

He settled in Florence where he produced the maritime atlas by an Englishman the Arcano del Mare being also the first to cover the entire world each chart devised on a uniform projection.
