The map had a large number of subscribers (over 700) but few examples survive, probably due to the temptation to display it as a wall map which would have accelerated the map's mortality.

W. Shirley. The Mapping of the World. number 187. The map was published separately in 1594 but was incorporated into editions of Linschoten's 'Itinerarium' from 1599 onwards. Plancius's map had a widespread influence on other map makers and it was issued unchanged throughout various editions of the 'Itinerarium'.

Imperial Federation, Map of the World showing the extent of the British Empire in 1886, published as a supplement to The Graphic, London, Maclure & Co., 24 July 1886, colour lithographed map, relined on thin paper, a few minor marks, 60 x 82 cmQTY: (1)NOTE:A nice example of Walter Crane's subversive map of the world, published to coincide with the Colonial and Indian Exhibition of 1886. Superficially, the map appears to be a standard piece of Imperialist propaganda but is overlaid with Socialist motifs. These include Phyrgian, or liberty, caps on the heads of the figures of Freedom, Fraternity and Federation, and the words 'Human Labour' on the sash of Atlas at the foot.
