WW1 Officers Killed in Action Memorial Book/Archive: To Lt George Godfrey Whitley Leary 10th Gloucestershire Regiment, Killed in Action 25th September 1915 Battle of Loos. The Memorial book was compiled by his parents and young widow and contains the official telegrams informing them of his death from the King and Queen and the War Office, a portrait photograph of him in uniform and another of soldiers marching- his Battalion, and then 64 letters from fellow officers and men detailing the action he fell in and details of where he was buried in a large grave with other officers and a map telling the position of the grave. The Book has an impressive hand painted front cover on Vellum together with a title page. Lieut Leary was the son of Dr E Leary of Alfreton Derbyshire and educated at Rapton and Jesus College Cambridge and was married to Edith Ball on 12th April 1915 at Cheltenham. The 10th Gloucestershire Regt landed in France 8th August 1915 only 4 Months after his wedding and he died 49 day after he landed.
